Hampton Roads Post Members,
Register, Register, Register is the theme for the month. We are still
looking to fill slots for the 2015 SAME Mid-Atlantic Industry Day and
Small Business Conference, 22-23 April.
The team has put together
a great program this year with a wide variety of speakers and a
broader federal presence than we have had in years.
Please
encourage young members in your firms and organizations to participate, as this year’s
icebreaker is focused on a young member event followed by a Restaurant Rally in downtown
Norfolk.

of the conference and look forward to seeing a large contingent from Hampton Roads. On a
personal note, I will receive the LTG Raymond A. Wheeler Award at the Society Ball on 21 ITEMS OF NOTE…
May and would love to have Post members there for the event.

SAME-USMC Camp Volunteers Needed
The SAME U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) Engineering &
Construction Camp is seeking volunteers to staff, manage
and conduct the Camp, located at Marine Corps Base (MCB)
Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, NC. Camp dates for personnel
and volunteers are set as 20-27 June 2015.
Mentors Needed
The camp requires a total of eight mentors who will work
with high school-aged boys and girls in their day-to-day
activities. The mentor position is a full-time volunteer
position with the Camp, and will require attendance from
mid-day Saturday the 20th through mid-day Saturday the
27th.

MSA Welcomes New Employees
MSA, P.C. would like to welcome the following new
employees:
Matthew W. Knightes, PE joins
MSA’s Engineering Department as a
Project Manager with 12 years of
civil engineering experience. He has
a B.S. in Civil Engineering Technology
from Old Dominion University and
an
Associate’s
in
Business
Administration from Hudson Valley
Community College. Additionally, he
is a licensed Professional Engineer in
Virginia and North Carolina. A long-term Virginia Beach
resident, Knightes is an avid golfer and a native of upstate
New York.
John I. “Jack” Bloom, III, PE, LEED
AP rejoins MSA’s Engineering
Department as a Project Manager.
He holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering
(Minor in Engineering Management)
from Old Dominion University (ODU)
and is currently pursuing his
Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering
from ODU. Bloom is a licensed
Professional Engineer and obtained
his certification as a LEED Accredited Professional in 2008.
Kennith G. Sexton also rejoins MSA’s
Engineering Department as a Project
Engineer III. He brings over 30 years
of industry experience and has
served in a variety of roles
throughout the years, beginning as a
draftsman and advancing into
engineering design. Sexton is a
Hampton Roads native and currently
resides in Virginia Beach.
Raul R. Castillo joins MSA’s
Engineering Department as a Civil
Design Technician III. Also a longterm resident of Virginia Beach,
Castillo obtained an Associate’s
Degree in Applied Science in Drafting
&
Design
from
Tidewater
Community College (TCC) and he has
completed engineering coursework
at ODU.
Sarah Street recently joined MSA’s
Landscape Architecture and Planning
Department as a Landscape
Designer. She has eight years of
experience and earned her Bachelor
of Landscape Architecture Degree
and Bachelor of Science in
Horticulture Degree (emphasis on
landscape design and construction)
from Michigan State University. She
currently lives in Chesapeake but hails from Michigan and
previously resided in Coconut Grove and Fort Lauderdale,
Florida for several years.

USCG, LANTDIV and Army Corps of
Engineers) and key company hires or

last Friday of each month.
Sustaining Member of the Month
One of our Sustaining Member firms is spotlighted each
month, given the opportunity to set up a tabletop booth at
the monthly meeting, and be recognized at the start of each
meeting by the President. A representative of the firm is
also invited to give a short overview of the firm at the
luncheon.
The designated Sustaining Member of the Month also
provides a summary of their firm’s expertise and services
for the military engineering community to be printed in the
newsletter. We ask that the Sustaining Member of the
Month bring a raffle prize valued at approximately $50 to
the luncheon for our scholarship raffle drawing. If you are
interested in participating, please contact Ms. Cindy Nash.
Please note that with your firms Sustaining Membership,
SIX (6) of your employees can be designated as sustaining
members (includes two Young Members). If you are not

SAME Credentialing Achievement Awards Program (CAAP)
The SAME Young Member Council is continuing the Credentialing Achievement Awards Program (CAAP) to promote
the professional development of SAME Young Members and NCO Members in support of the SAME Strategic Plan.
The CAAP serves to fulfill an objective which is to provide financial support for professional development, education,
and mentoring initiatives to benefit our SAME members.
SAME will support the cost by reimbursing Young and NCO Members for exam sitting or registration fees. The full
program details and application are located on here. 2015 Applications are due April 10 and October 9.
