Easter Sunday
of the Resurrection of the Lord
April 5, 2015
May all of us celebrate the true meaning of
Easter with a joyful spirit. If a reconciliation with
someone needs to be made, try it! If forgiveness has to be
given and grudges let go, do it! God loves us more than
we can imagine and it’s up to us to show that love by
returning it to others!
CHRIST IS RISEN! INDEED HE IS
RISEN! ALLELUIA!
“I shall not die, but live,
and declare the works of the Lord.”
~ Psalm 118:17
 From the Desk of Msgr. Dennis 
e-mail: [email protected]
“CHRIST IS RISEN! INDEED HE IS
RISEN!” With these words Christians
throughout the centuries have greeted one
another on this most blessed, most sacred of
days. We mourned with Christ through His
passion and death on Holy Thursday and
Good Friday. We prayed at the sealed tomb on Saturday
only to celebrate with explosive joy at the resurrection on
Easter! Jesus Christ who suffered and died for our sake,
to take our sins, to lead us into heaven broke the chains of
death and sin and won for us the incredible victory of
eternal life. Satan and his minions have been sent fleeing
in terrified confusion like an army suddenly crushed in
battle by superior forces. Christ is Risen! Indeed He is
Risen! This joyful prayer should echo in every Christian
household today and throughout the Easter Season. Did
you color Easter eggs in your home? If so, exchange
them and recite that greeting when you do! What a
wonderful gift God has given us by assurance of His love
and abiding presence in the resurrection of Christ from the
dead!
As we have gone through the conversion season
of Lent may we now go through the celebration season of
Easter with hearts and minds renewed and recommitted to
be faithful disciples of Jesus Christ in the world. It
doesn’t take much to see that the world is a mess! There
is so much grief and sadness that it seems at times like the
evil one is winning – but he’s not! Christ is the Victor
and He depends on us, His legions, to promote the gospel
with the witness of our lives. No matter where we are or
what we do for a living; no matter if we are students,
home makers, priests, laity, spouses, single persons – we
are all called to preach the Good News of salvation to the
world. Maybe some people don’t want to hear what we
have to say. Fine! In that case just let our actions be our
words as we let them know God loves them – no matter
how cranky or cynical they are!
A SINCERE WELCOME to all of our visitors to San
Rafael Parish this weekend! We are thrilled that you have
chosen to come here to celebrate Easter with us. If you
are seeking relief from the anxieties imposed by the world
then turn your life to Christ and join us in giving Him
worship, thanks, service and praise as a member of our
parish! Once again – WELCOME!
THANK YOU to one and all who worked
so hard over Lent and Holy Week to
provide us with the wonderful celebrations
of the Lord’s love that we have had. There
are so many who deserve recognition here, but we can be
certain their names are inscribed in ledgers of charity in
heaven as well. THANK YOU EVERYONE!
 THE PARISH OFFICES WILL BE CLOSED on
Easter Monday, April 6, in order to give our staff the
opportunity to enjoy Easter. They will be open as usual
on Tuesday.
THE EASTER OCTAVE means that daily 8:00 a.m.
Mass is celebrated as Easter Sunday for eight days,
continuing the joyful celebration of the resurrection of
Christ from the dead.
THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION for our
parish will be celebrated this coming Friday, April 10, at
6:00 p.m. Please keep our Confirmands in your prayers
this week.
We, the Confirmandi of San Rafael,
cordially invite you
to attend our Confirmation Mass on
Friday, April 10, 2015, at 6:00 p.m.
Celebrant: Msgr. Dennis L. Mikulanis

Please note: We are happy to list parishioners’ names
who request our prayers in the bulletin. However, we
have had trouble in keeping the list up-to-date. Many
people forget to let us know when to take a name off the
list and, as a result, our list becomes HUGE and
outdated. We will list names for prayer requests for one
month. After the last Sunday of the month the names on
the list will be taken off and a new prayer request list
will be published the first Sunday of the month. If
someone wishes to have a name remembered again, the
name must be re-submitted to the office. This will assure
that we keep an up-to-date and more readable list.

EASTER OFFERINGS:
During the
Easter season, it is encouraging to see both
new and familiar faces at our worship
services. Throughout the year, many of
you already support the congregation with your time,
talent and financial contributions but greater participation
is always welcome. We encourage you to look into our
electronic giving program. It takes just a few minutes to
setup a recurring giving plan. Visit the church website –
www.sanrafaelparish.org - and locate the donation link
or, if you prefer, complete a paper authorization form by
coming in to the parish office.
ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL: By this time all
registered parishioners should have received their ACA
materials in the mail. For those who are not registered
and wish to participate, pledge cards can be found in the
vestibule of the church. It is critical that every single
Catholic participate in the ACA to help the diocese meet
its needs in ministering to the Catholics of San Diego and
Imperial Counties. Without you who will do the job?
Our parish assessment is $102,000. Please help us meet
that goal. As you know, as in years past any amount
pledged and received over the assessment will be divided
into three: 1/3 to the parish, 1/3 to Imperial Valley Parish
Development; 1/3 to the Diocesan Catholic Education
Fund.
REMEMBER YOUR PARISH IN YOUR WILL. The
work our parish accomplishes continues through the
thoughtfulness of our parishioners who remember us in
bequests and wills. Please consider remembering the
parish in your bequest and will. The bequest should be
listed as a beneficiary, “Pastor of San Rafael Parish of
San Diego, a Corporation Sole. Federal ID #273859305.” Long after a faithful Christian has departed
this life, that person’s name and generosity can be
continued through the religious education program,
outreach to the poor, building fund, youth ministry or any
other number of worthy parish causes by remembering
San Rafael Parish in the individual’s will or trust. This
would truly be a lasting legacy for anyone!
