Thanks for submitting your Orientation Data Form! Now it’s time to plan for your summer
orientation session. Summer orientation is an important part of your UB experience. You’ll get to
meet staff and students who will support you as you start your education.
WHEN IS MY ORIENTATION SESSION?
Check your email or log in to your Orientation Data Form
(orientation.buffalo.edu/step1) to check the dates of your
orientation. On the first day you will check-in at Fargo Quad,
a North Campus residence hall, between 9 a.m. and
9:45 a.m. You will stay overnight in Fargo and the program
will end at 3:30 p.m. on the second day.
To change your orientation session dates, log in to your
Orientation Data Form (orientation.buffalo.edu/step1).

WHAT HAPPENS AT ORIENTATION?
At orientation, you will:
> Pick up your UB Card and parking hang tag (see page 5)
> Meet academic advisors and learn success strategies
for your major
> Hear from UB faculty about academic expectations
> Learn about university services and resources available
to all UB students
> Gain insight about college life, including what it’s like
to live on campus or to commute
> Get acquainted with some of UB’s 300 student clubs
and organizations
> Socialize with other UB students through small group
discussions, late night events, etc.
> Explore the campus
> Learn about UB’s history and traditions and much more!
WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO ORIENTATION?
Personal items you’ll want to bring include:
> Photo identification (driver’s license, passport, military ID,
or state-issued non-driver’s ID)
> Informal, casual clothing and comfortable walking shoes
> Bed linen (twin extra long sheets) or sleeping bag
and pillow
> Toiletries (soap, shampoo, etc.) and towel
> Fan
> Umbrella and rain gear
> Questions, ideas, and plenty of enthusiasm!
> Optional: donations for service project (see below)
COST
The new student fee covers all expenses associated with
academic planning, summer orientation, and Opening
Weekend. The $225 fee will be included in your fall
2015 tuition bill. No payment is due now.
At orientation, you can choose to participate in a service
project assembling care packages for children who are
staying at a local hospital. If you have small toys
(e.g., coloring books/crayons, stuffed toys, toy cars) or
toiletry items (for their parents/family members) that
you’re willing to donate, please bring them with you!

How to Get to UB
By plane The Buffalo Niagara International Airport
(4200 Genesee St.) is approximately 15 minutes from UB and
a taxi costs about $30.
By bus The Greyhound bus station (181 Ellicott St.)
is approximately 20 minutes from UB and a taxi costs
about $30.
By train Amtrak has two stations nearby (the Exchange St.
station, approximately 25 minutes from UB and the Depew
station, approximately 15 minutes from UB). A taxi ranges
from $30 to $50.
Using any of these methods, direct a taxi to bring you to
the Fargo Quad in the Ellicott Complex on the University at
Buffalo’s North Campus.
By car If you are traveling via the New York State Thruway
(I-90), take Exit 50 to I-290 West. Stay on I-290 to Exit 4

Once on campus follow the red line indicated above.
(I-990). Follow the signs for University at Buffalo (Exit 1
off I-990). Exit 1 will bring you onto Audubon Parkway,
the main road that encircles UB’s North Campus. Use the
“turn-around” just before the traffic light and travel north
on Audubon. At the first traffic light turn left onto Hamilton
Road. Then turn right into the Fargo parking lot.
Once you park, student orientation leaders will direct you to
the check-in area in Fargo Quad.

GPS directions If you are using a GPS device for navigation,
enter the intersection Hamilton Road and Audubon Parkway,
Amherst, NY 14228. Turn north onto Hamilton Rd toward the
Ellicott Complex of residence halls.

Register for Parent & Family Orientation
Parent & Family Orientation is highly recommended and we encourage you to ask
someone who will be supporting you during college to attend. Parent & Family
Orientation is a two-day program held separately but at the same time as your
orientation session. For more information, visit orientation.buffalo.edu/step4/

Before orientation, your advisor will create a fall
schedule based on your major and the information
provided on your Orientation Data Form. For majors
with a great deal of flexibility in the first-year program,

Get Answers to Financial Aid or
Billing Questions and More
The HUB Student Center is an online one-stop
shop for all of your financial aid, billing, and
registration needs. To access your HUB Student
Center select the tab in MyUB. For questions, visit
buffalo.edu/hub.
The name of your financial aid advisor is posted in
the HUB Student Center. Advisors are located at
115 Porter Quad in the Ellicott Complex; call

Dining & Campus Cash
Love a variety of foods and dining options? Then you’ll love dining at UB! From our outstanding, award-winning residential
dining program to many popular national chains and UB venues, Campus Dining & Shops has something for everyone.
EATING ON CAMPUS AS A FIRST-YEAR RESIDENT STUDENT
To help students transition to college life, first-year students
living in residence halls must have a meal plan. Your meal
plan consists of a set number of meal credits per week, along
with Dining Dollars. Here’s how it works:
MEAL CREDITS:
> Residential Dining Centers: Use a meal credit to eat in an
all-you-care-to-eat format at any of our Residential Dining
Centers for breakfast and dinner during the week and
brunch and dinner on weekends.
> Campus Dining & Shops’ Restaurants and Cafés: To give
you flexibility and options, your meal credits have assigned
dollar values based on the meal period that can be used
at our restaurants and cafés. If your purchase goes over
the assigned dollar value, you can pay the remainder using
a second meal credit or Dining Dollars. To view all of our
dining locations and meal period times, visit myubcard.

DINING DOLLARS:
> Dining Dollars give you the flexibility to get a snack or meal
whenever you want. Dining Dollars work like a debit account
on your UB Card at all Campus Dining & Shops locations,
with purchases automatically deducted from the balance
of the account. Get a beverage or snack from a vending
machine, grab a late-night meal, or purchase food or
beverage products from one of our convenience stores.
> Your Dining Dollars roll over from the fall to spring
semester (with the purchase of a spring meal plan), but
they do not roll over to the next academic year. If you use up
your Dining Dollars before the end of the semester, simply
add more in increments of $25. More than convenient,
Dining Dollars are tax-exempt, saving you 8.75% on every
purchase.
Meal credits and Dining Dollars are stored on your UB Card
so there isn’t any need to carry cash. Unused meals from
your meal plan do not carry over from week to week, so be
sure to use your meals before the end of the week.
First-year students living in residence halls must choose from one of the two plans listed below. First-year students are
automatically assigned the Any 19 Plan, but may select the Any 14 Plan by visiting myubcard.com/mealplans.
Any 19 Plan - $2,745 (per semester)
This is a great plan and the best value. This plan gives
you 19 meal credits a week to use in any combination
in the Residential Dining Centers and Campus Dining
& Shops restaurant and café locations. This plan
provides you the opportunity to socialize with friends,
take a break from a hectic college schedule, and enjoy
an atmosphere designed with you in mind. Plus you’ll
receive:
> $200 Dining Dollars
> 3 Guest Meal Passes
Any 14 Plan - $2,600 (per semester)
Like all of our meal plans, this plan provides
convenience, flexibility, and access to a variety of foods
here at UB. This plan gives you 14 meal credits a week
to use in any combination in the Residential Dining
Centers and Campus Dining & Shops restaurant and
café locations. Plus you’ll receive:
> $300 Dining Dollars
> 3 Guest Meal Passes

Eating on
Campus as
a Commuter
Student
Commuters can select any meal plan
or just Commuter Dining Dollars to
use in any of our dining locations. Most
commuters also add funds to their
Campus Cash account, allowing for
even more dining options here at UB
and off-campus too. A meal may be
used in any of our residential dining
locations or as a meal credit at our
restaurant and café locations. Log on
to myubcard.com/mealplans to see all
your meal plan options.
CAMPUS CASH
ADDITIONAL SERVICES
Campus Cash is a campus administered prepaid declining
debit account encoded on your UB Card. Campus Cash
is a safe and convenient way to purchase your textbooks,
classroom supplies, and food - as well as other necessities
both on and off campus.
Campus Dining & Shops provides other services for
students in addition to our on-campus restaurants
and residential dining centers. Check out our website
myubcard.com/shops to learn more about these great
services:
Campus Cash can be ready and waiting for you when you
arrive at UB. Simply add to your Campus Cash account
anytime online at myubcard.com/campuscash. It’s
fast, easy and convenient - You can access funds from
Financial Aid/Student Loans not yet received by billing
your Campus Cash to your University Student Account. The
initial minimum deposit is $25 and then you can deposit
in increments of $25. For all the details and to view the

Key Dates
The last day to change your meal plan for the fall semester is September 4, 2015. All dining plans for resident students
