Novice Lifter Workshop May 2, 2015 10:00am—4:15pm Regina SK A workshop to help athletes and coaches new to powerlifting who want to fine tune their squat, bench press, and deadlift techniques, begin to develop proper training programs, and be better prepared for competition day. This workshop is open to all Saskatchewan Powerlifting Association members who hold a valid Canadian Powerlifting Union membership card. Email: [email protected] Location: Adrenaline Personal Training 645 Angus St. Regina SK Novice Lifter Workshop November 22, 2014 Saskatoon, SK Being presented by the Saskatchewan Powerlifting Association executive members Ryan Fowler, President Ryan Fowler has been lifting competitively since 2002. He has competed at every National Championship since 2002, winning 4 Junior National Championships and 1 Open National Championship. He has also represented Canada at 3 World Championships, once as a Junior in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 2005 and twice in the Open, 2011 in Pilsen, Czech Republic and 2014 in Denver, Colorado. He has also held 2 National Records in the squat and the total in the 120+kg weight class. In addition to lifting himself, Ryan is an accomplished coach, having coached at all levels of powerlifting. In 2011, he was named the head coach of the Open National team that competed in Czech Republic and was one of two coaches who attend the 2013 World Games in Cali, Colombia. Chris Arnold, Vice-President Chris has been lifting competitively since 2007 competing in all but 2 National Championships to date finishing 2nd in 2013 in the Classic Master 2 93 kg category. Chris held the Master 1 93 kg National Deadlift Record (260.5 kg) and holds all 93 kg Master 2 Provincial Records (Squat, Bench Press, Deadlift & Total) and also holds the 93 kg Master 1 Provincial Records for Squat, Deadlift and Total. Chris was the Head Coach for Team Canada at the 2012 Eleiko Classic World Cup held in Stockholm Sweden. Chris is currently an assistant powerlifting coach at Synergy Strength in Saskatoon. Taunia Stevens, Secretary Taunia has been competing since 2007 having competed at 3 National Championships winning 2 and finishing second once. Taunia has held various National Records in the squat, bench press, and total. She is currently ranked 3rd in Canada based on wilks for women. Ryan Stinn, Technical Chairperson Ryan has been competing in powerlifting since 2005. Ryan has competed in the Canadian Nationals in either powerlifting or bench press for the past 9 years and has won three times. He has also competed at North American Powerlifting Championships twice and won in 2014 and IPF Open Worlds four times with a best finish of 6th place. He currently holds the national records in the squat, deadlift and total. In Moose Jaw he runs Unparalleled Performance Training Centre which is sending five athletes to Open Worlds this year. After a attending the World Championships last year he developed his own training system, aptly called the Stinn System, and it is now used by a number of people across the country. Ryan has been an active coach, attending and coaching at numerous world level events including the last two World Games. Rhaea Stinn, Records Chairperson Rhaea has been competing since 2003. She has competed at and won her age/weight class in every National Championship since 2003. In 2005, she began competing internationally, and some highlights include winning 2006 Sub-Junior Worlds, 2011 Junior Worlds, and attending the 2009 and 2013 World Games. Rhaea currently holds National Records in 3 different weight classes, and is ranked 1 st in Canada based on wilks for women. She has also coached athletes at numerous National and World Championships. Novice Lifter Workshop May 2, 2015 Regina, SK Objectives of the Workshop: Support novice lifters and coaches that train by themselves in centers where no support exists. Basic lifting technique for the 3 powerlifts: squat, bench press, deadlift Basic training programming Preparation for competition day Tentative Schedule: 10:00: Introductions and review of objectives for the day 10:45-12:00: Squat introduction and practice 12:00-12:30: Lunch Break 12:30-1:30: Bench press introduction and practice 1:30-1:45: Break 1:45-2:45: Deadlift introduction and practice 2:45-3:15: Training programming principles 3:15-3:30: Break 3:30-4:00: Preparing for competition day 4:00-4:15: Wrap up Things to note: No training experience is required. This workshop is intended for athletes and coaches new to powerlifting (having never competed, or competed in less than 4 competitions), however, it is open to anyone who would like to attend who holds a valid Saskatchewan Powerlifting Association and Canadian Powerlifting Union membership card.
