Mastering Musicology: Quality pedagogy and effective assessment for student engagement and achievement Saturday 8 August 9:00am - 3:00pm UQ School of Music Zelman Cowan Building St Lucia Campus Presenters: Meredith Baxter – QCAA with Cade Bonar – St Andrews College, Sunshine Coast Janette Kelly – St Hilda’s School Shane Tooley – Downlands College The workshop will focus on teaching and assessing Musicology within the QCAA Senior Music Syllabus (2013). The day will include sessions on evaluating assessment tasks to make sure that tasks meet all assessment objectives, and approaches to pedagogy that will maximise student success. There will also be a question and answer session. Participants will work collaboratively on learning experiences and assessment tasks, which will be shared after the workshop. This workshop is designed as an extension on the QCAA assessment workshops that were run earlier this year, but will also cover the basics of Musicology assessment. It is designed for all classroom music teachers and pre-service teachers who teach, or have an interest in teaching at the Senior level. She has worked in a variety of both government and independent schools across south-east Queensland in the roles of Head of Department, the Arts and Director of Performing Arts. Most recently, Meredith was the District Representative Panel Chair - Music, for Brisbane North but she has also been a State Panel member and panellist in a number of districts throughout her teaching career. She is a strong supporter of externally moderated school based assessment. Meredith also has a keen interest in choral music. Cade Bonar is currently Head of Music (Curriculum) at St Andrew’s Anglican College on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. He is also the District Review Panel Chair for Music (Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority), on the Sunshine Coast. Since 2011, Cade has worked as a sessional lecturer and tutor at Griffith University and the University of the Sunshine Coast. Janette Kelly has been teaching music in Qld secondary schools for over 30 years. Janette was also involved in the development of both the 2004 and 2013 Senior Music Syllabii and is currently part of the QCAA Senior Curriculum and Assessment Music Working Group. Shane Tooley has been a Music and Music Extension panellist for over 10 years. He has spent the last 5 years as a District Panel Chair for Music Extension and has recently been appointed as the District Panel Chair for Music in Toowoomba. Shane is currently the Curriculum Leader – The Arts at Downlands College, Toowoomba.
