More FOSS
A huge thank you to Becky Youdan (Olivia and
Georgie’s mum) who has submitted an entry to the
PTA UK Most Challenging Outdoor Spaces
Competition.
She has cited the benefits of the provision of an
outdoor learning environment which will further
enhance the children’s understanding of the
outdoor world and its inhabitants as well as giving
us a much needed area for reflection which, as we
are a church school, is a requirement by both the
Christian Church and OFSTED - SMSC (Spiritual,
Social, Moral and Cultural development)
Thank you, Becky and we will wait in anticipation
of a positive outcome.

Best Work and Presentation Awards
As we are continuing to focus on children’s pride
in their work, Sycamore are displaying
“Best Work” and “Best Handwriting” in class
every Friday.
Today the awards are as follows:
Best Work – Henry Ward
London Marathon
I thought you might like to know , if you haven’t
already heard a very proud mum talking about it, that
my son finished the London Marathon in an amazing
time of 3.19.45. It was a magnificent event as many
of you who watched it on TV will know with runners
dressed as a shoe, batman and an ostrich joined
serious runners and disabled athletes to complete
the gruelling 26.2 miles around the streets of our
capital.
Best Handwriting – Olivia Youdan
Well done to you both!
Pen Licence
A well deserved Pen Licence has been awarded
to Clara Hinchliffe Martinez whose writing as a
Year One pupil is beautifully neat.
Well done,
Clara!
I managed to see him at three different points in the
race: near the Cutty Sark, Canary Wharf and near
the end at Westminster. My heart skipped a beat by
Winston Churchill’s statue as Patrick was obviously
‘hurting’ as all the other runners were but the pride
was immense as he was presented with the official
medal which he wore for a very long time after the
event!
Well done to Mark Hodgson (Katie and
Alfie’s dad) who also completed the race
in a fantastic 3.37.50.
Football
Party Night
Everybody had a great time at Party Night – there
was a great atmosphere and lots of dancing going
on. In total we have raised £1,970.
A big thank you to everyone who helped organise
the event, the people who attended and the very
kind people who have donated their time or
services in the auction in aid of raising money for
the school.
Thank you also to Ben and Rachel for hosting the
event at Dintingdale Resturant.
On Thursday the 30th of April the Year Three and
Four boys played football against Barkston Ash and
Barkston won 4 - 2 . MR G-C said that we all played
really well. We did notwin but we tried our best.
Waves was in goal Taylor H was in defence, I was
right mid-field Theo mid- field, Taylor G left mid field.
And finally Baylee was striker and Taylor scored
both goals.
By Alfred Ward.

Summer Term Britishness
We are going to be learning about ‘JUSTICE’ as our Christian value this half term
As you are now aware, we teach the children about Fundamental British values and to further enhance
their learning, we will be conducting our own ‘General Election’ following election procedures to show the
children how systems work in our Country.
We have received a large suitcase full of items used in the House of Commons from Parliament UK
which we will be sharing with the children so that they can get a picture of what goes on in London
especially as we are nearing the Election Day.
Here is Katie Hodgson
ready to take on the
ministers in the House
of Maple!
Village Hall
Bookings can now be made via the new Village Hall website: www.saxtonvillagehall.co.uk
You can email the Village Hall with any other queries on [email protected]
Saxton Scarecrow Festival
Sunday 28th June 2015
Due to the fantastic success in 2013 of Saxton’s first Scarecrow Festival it has been agreed to
hold a second Scarecrow Festival on Sunday 28th June 2015.
Last year we had over 30 scarecrows in the village so we are keen for everyone to once again
get involved and make a scarecrow, but don’t worry you if don’t live in the village we have plenty
of room to showcase scarecrows so if you are keen to make one we will find it a good home.
(There are prizes to be won for the top three scarecrows voted for by the public).
There will be lots to see and do on the day and everyone is welcome.
Please contact Clare Barrowman if you are interested in making a scarecrow at
[email protected] or if you would like to help out in any way then please do get
in touch.
It would be helpful to have an indication of your interest before the 5th of March when we have
our first planning meeting at 7:30pm in Saxton Village Hall – again everyone is welcome.
