The Midwest Clinic (www.midwestclinic.org) is the most prestigious band and orchestra music convention that features the top performing ensembles from around the world. In addition, latest teaching methods from leading pedagogues and several new compositions are premiered at the Midwest Clinic. Each December, approximately 17,000 people attend the Midwest Clinic held at McCormick Place in Chicago. WHO? After a rigorous and competitive audition process, the Beckendorff Honor Orchestra accepted the invitation to perform at the Midwest Clinic. This is a tremendous privilege and honor for Beckendorff to represent Katy and the state of Texas on a world stage. Students must perform the necessary audition requirements highlighted in the audition packet in order to be considered for a coveted spot in the Beckendorff Honor Orchestra. Performance and advanced playing ability are absolutely critical to being considered for the Honor Orchestra. In addition, students must exemplify an incredible work ethic, positive attitude, and excellent rehearsal etiquette in order to be considered for Chicago. We encourage all Honor Orchestra students to study privately in order to meet the level of rigor required for this orchestra. Students selected for the 2015-2016 Honor Orchestra are expected to commit to participating in the Midwest Clinic. WHY? The world deserves to hear our remarkable students perform! Our students deserve the opportunity to meet living composers (we will be premiering several new works with the composers in the audience!) and hear several ensembles from around the world perform. Orchestra is a profession that requires travel for study and performance. Our young musicians need the opportunity to travel to one of America’s greatest cities in order experience the satisfaction of their Midwest Clinic performance in addition to partaking in cultural opportunities such as the world-renown Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Broadway, and museums. This is a once-in-a-lifetime trip and one of the best musical experiences any musician can ever experience. WHEN? We will receive notification of our performance date and time in June. The Midwest Clinic is held from December 16-19, 2015. MANDATORY PARENT & STUDENT MIDWEST CLINIC MEETING: Tuesday, June 2, 2015 7PM Beckendorff Café This meeting is for students and parents who are selected for the 2015-2016 Honor Orchestra. (Students will know their orchestra placement no later than May 28th. If you plan on auditioning for Honor Orchestra, please put this date on your calendar in case you actually do win a spot in the orchestra.) Tour-rific Travel will give a presentation detailing the trip agenda, cost, and answer parent questions. Mr. Butz will provide information regarding parent chaperone opportunities as well as the expectation for Honor Orchestra musicians as we prepare for Midwest Clinic.
