Employers consider skills gained through volunteer and community service experiences to be just as pertinent and valuable as those skills acquired through paid employment. As an upper year student at Humber, you can volunteer to mentor new student’s transition into college life or mentor high school students who are enrolled in the dual credit program. This document could be in the form of a reference letter and should contain: A position description, including title, duties and responsibilities; skills utilized Dates of service or number of hours contributed Any training you may have received by the organization A brief evaluation of your performance and overall contribution to the organization. This will be useful in showcasing your accomplishments, skills and abilities on your resume. HOW TO INCLUDE YOUR VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCES ON YOUR RESUME Be sure to identify the skills that you learned and utilized as a volunteer that are relevant to the position for which you are applying. Depending on the extent and duration, your volunteer experience can be classified under “Work Experience” on your resume.
