Kinesiology taping has been used for several decades to decrease pain, prevent injury, and improve performance.
Traditionally, kinesiology tape has been used in the athletic setting, and its use has become more frequent based on
improvements seen in the athletic population. However, research indicates the potential for non-athletic use in the
geriatric population. Kinesiology tape can serve as a non-invasive means to treat geriatric conditions and improve
functional outcomes when combined with traditional treatment techniques.
This hands-on one day workshop will provide participants with an understanding of both orthopedic and non-orthopedic
uses of kinesiology taping in geriatric patients. Participants will learn techniques to assess common orthopedic
limitations of the upper and lower body, and gain skills to determine the appropriate integration of kinesiology taping
with therapeutic exercise and other treatment techniques to improve function. Non-orthopedic uses for pain, stroke
and edema will be explained and demonstrated, along with applications for scar management. Through hands-on labs
and demonstrations, participants will practice taping techniques that can be applied immediately, and develop skills to
improve function, safety and healing in their geriatric clients.
About Your Program Instructor
Marlon Jant, DPT, PT, is a physical therapist with broad experience treating and addressing the geriatric population
in acute, skilled nursing, outpatient and home health environments. Dr. Jant earned his Bachelor’s in Sports Medicine

also evaluated and developed therapeutic exercise and balance activities for SNF residents, in addition to ensuring
safety during physical therapy transfer, gait training sessions and discharge. In the outpatient setting, Dr. Jant has
worked with highly trained specialists focusing on functional capacity examinations, examination skills for orthopedic
