Department of Social Work 2nd Conference on Disaster Behavioral Health: Understanding and Building Skills for Intervention May 27 & 28, 2015 George Mason University, Fairfax Campus Johnson Center, Dewberry Hall, Lower Level This two-day conference follows our first successful conference providing introductory content on Disaster Behavioral Health. This conference continues in providing more depth about specific aspects of disaster behavioral health intervention. Once again, you can expect expert trainers, exhibitors, and the opportunity to network and build your expertise in disaster behavioral health. Join us for both days! Agenda, Day 1: (9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) Psychological First Aid Psychological First Aid is an evidence-informed approach for assisting people in the immediate aftermath of disaster and terrorism to reduce initial distress and to foster short and long term adaptive functioning. Can be used many settings. Training will include content, exercises, cases, and skill development. Trainer: Dr. Robert Macy, Exec Director of Boston Children Foundation, Co-Director of Division of Disaster Resilience, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. A pioneer in the field of Traumatic Incident Stress Interventions and public health mental health, psychosocial intervention, and research. Participants who complete Day 1 training will receive a certificate in Psychological First Aid Training. Workshop 1: 9:30 a.m. to noon Community, Classroom, Culture Based Intervention (CBI) CBI is an evidence-based intervention that has been effective in post disaster/trauma as well as in building resilience in youth and adults. Used internationally and nationally as a tool to promote trauma recovery. Trainer: Dr. Robert Macy Workshop 2: 1:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. Recovery Efforts After Adult and Child Trauma (REACT) Intervention model to prepare and promote recovery from traumatic events (e.g., fires, hurricanes) by community responders.
