CATHOLIC EDUCATION

"Here is a rule for everyday life:
Do not do anything
which you cannot offer to God."

welcome to join other parents (and grandparents) who,
throughout the morning, offer 5 or 10 minutes of prayer in
the main church. In addition, a group (two or more)
gather in His name to pray a rosary at Our Lady of the
Atonement’s side altar.

GALA IS COMING — MAY 2! See page four for more
details! The event will also mark our celebration of our
20th anniversary! Please make plans to attend!

“I thought about the difference a true Catholic
School can make in the life of a child...Parents
might not know how much of the day is interwoven with theology. They might only think their
child is missing one 30 minute religion class a
day and Mass if they leave and go to a nonCatholic school. This is a great deal to miss out on
from my view point, but perhaps not from
theirs...in a school which can’t speak of Jesus
Christ as Savior and Mary as Our Blessed Mother,
there is a limit to what can be shared about
Truth, Goodness, and Beauty…”

Science Department News
Several of our Middle School scholars were accepted
into the San Antonio, Pre-freshman Engineering Program (SA-PREP) at the University of Texas at San Antonio campus for this summer, including Sofia Ortega,
Ana Stallard and Luke Hivnor. There, they will join
many other Academy students already enrolled.
Eighth Grader Aditi Singh represented The Atonement
Academy at the Exxon-Mobil State Science and Engineering Fair on March 26-29th, and won a 5th place ribbon for her category.
Freshman John M. Karako was accepted into the 2015
class of the Voelcker Biomedical Research Academy on
March 31st. This prestigious program accepts 20 students per year from around the San Antonio area, and
provides them with a three summer-long, paid internship, during which they can work in professional research laboratories at the University of Texas Health
Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA). The Atone-
ment Academy has had its students accepted into this
program every year since the Voelcker Academy was
founded.
On April 12th, Sophomore Mariel Ortega was accepted
into the Cornell University Young Birder’s Event, a highly
competitive event being held this July.
On April 7th, Junior Sarah (“Ana”) Henriquez was accepted into a paid summer internship at the University of the
Incarnate Word, under a grant funded by the U.S. Army.
Ana will work under the guidance of Dr. Veronica Martinez-Acosta of the Department of Biology. Among other
projects, she will continue with her science fair research
using the segmented worm, Lumbriculus.
Congratulations to all of our students for using their talents and putting forth exemplary efforts to accomplish so
much. We know you will keep up the good work!
