A springtime safety reminder from Quinte
Conservation…This spring, be smart and stay
safe. Don’t play near the river, dams, ditches or
culverts. Stream banks are slippery too! Stay
away from thin ice and cold fast flowing water.
Mounds of ice on the shores of lakes can be
dangerous too!
Remember, when you go out this spring… Stay
away from water, be smart and stay safe!

EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO ATTEND!
Following the Extraordinary Synod on the
Family in October, Pope Francis and the
Synod of Bishops are once again seeking
responses to questions as part of their
preparation for the 2015 Synod on the
Family. Engaging in this process is a way
to take an active role in shaping how we
share the Gospel and respond to the needs
of those around us.
Please use the following link to take the
survey.

Please note…..
Lego Club
All Ages Welcome!
The school needs your help! We are
looking for Lego to help us start a
Lego Club. We need small sets
complete with instructions or random
pieces for freestyle creations.
This will be a Lego based social skills
program that uses Lego as a means to
learn and improve social interactions
and communication skills, which will
assist and enable children to develop
and maintain lasting friendships.
The program will be run by Lonnie
Farrell the school Youth Worker.
Should you have any questions
please contact the school.
Should you need to change end of
day transportation arrangements for
your child, please do so using a note
in the agenda. It is very difficult and
often stressful to handle multiple
telephone requests for changes for
multiple students towards the end of
the day.
Thank you.

of sites that are off limits.

Keep internet-connected computers
in an open area and out of your
child’s bedroom.

Create a relationship with your child
that is conducive to open
communication, talk to them about
their online friends and activities
just as you would about their other
activities.

Know which chat rooms or message
boards your child visits, whom they
talk to and make sure they’re not
talking to strangers.

Teach your child never to give out
personal information without your

Random Acts of Kindness Week
This year, St.
Carthagh Catholic
school took part in
the Jump Rope for
Heart fundraiser in
order to raise money
for the Heart and
Stroke Foundation. In
the weeks leading up
to our event day, students worked tirelessly
to collect funds to aid in the research of
heart disease and stroke. On February 11th,
our gym was transformed into a skipping
zone by our grade 7/8’s. Students of all ages
travelled down to get active and have fun at
the different stations. In the end, our school
goal of $1000 was surpassed, and we were
able to come together and raise an amazing
$1496.18! It is truly special to see a small
community come together to make such a
big difference.
St. Carthagh Catholic School will be
participating in Random Acts of
Kindness Week from March 9 to 13.
The purpose of this week is to
promote positive energy to
counteract the negative effects of senseless
violence in our society and to honour the
memory of all victims of violence. Activities
will be held in promoting this cause.

Our Brain:
St. Carthagh School Ski Trip
The Incredible
Multi-Tasker
Our brains are at work
while we learn, problem-solve, breathe,
stand, talk, digest, keep a heart-beat, see,
hear, walk, chew gum and so much more all at the same time!
Our brains are more intricate than the most
complex engine; more able to solve
problems than the most sophisticated
computer. Just like those special
machines, our children’s brains need and
deserve the very best attention to keep
healthy and in good working order.
Some Tips to Keep Your Children’s
Brains Healthy
Provide a warm, loving, consistent
environment. Show pride in their efforts.
Help children build relationships.
On Friday, February 20th we had the
opportunity to attend Batawa Ski Hill for
the day. I would like to thank all the
parents, staff and students who helped
make this
opportunity
possible. It was
amazing to see
all the first time
skiers out there,
trying something
brand new. Each
student did a
wonderful job, and I am so proud of how
all of you took the time to show
encouragement, support and kindness to
one another. A big thank you to our parent
volunteers who came out for the day. Your
help is always appreciated.
Thank You, Ms. Weese
