Dear Eagle Place and Blue Sage Owners/Residents,
I am writing to share some important news regarding proposed changes to school attendance
areas for your neighborhood schools.
This spring, I intend to recommend to the Boulder Valley Board of Education that the Eagle Place
neighborhood and future Blue Sage development (identified as areas A and B on the attached map)
which currently are designated to attend Louisville Elementary, Louisville Middle and Monarch
High be reassigned to the attendance areas of Ryan Elementary, Angevine Middle and Centaurus
High schools. This reassignment would allow Lafayette residents to attend a nearby school in their
own community and would provide relief related to enrollment growth at Louisville Elementary.
This proposal would affect future students and those changing levels (elementary to middle,
middle to high). If approved by the Board of Education, the change would take effect for the
2015/16 school year. Students who reside in the affected areas and currently attend school in
Louisville would be allowed to continue attending their current schools. This exception would apply
only to the current school and does not extend to when students advance to the next level (i.e.
middle or high school). Please see the attached “Questions and Answers” for more information
about the proposal.
We want to hear from you regarding this proposal. A community open house is scheduled for April
30, at Ryan Elementary School (1405 Centaur Village Drive, Lafayette) from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Staff will be available to answer questions. If you are unable to attend but have questions or
comments, please e-mail Glen Segrue, BVSD Senior Planner at [email protected] or 720-5615794.
The proposal will be presented to the Board for consideration in May, with final action tentatively
scheduled for June 9. Community members will have an opportunity to comment on the proposal
at each Board meeting. Board meetings are held at the Boulder Valley Education Center, 6500 E.
Arapahoe Rd., Boulder at 6 p.m. Information about this proposal, including the May board meeting
date, will be posted on the BVSD website at www.bvsd.org/LafayetteLouisvilleBoundaryChange.
Thank you for your continued support of BVSD student learning.
Sincerely,
Bruce K. Messinger, Ph.D.

2015 Blue Sage/Eagle Place Boundary Change Q&A
Question: What are attendance area boundaries?
Answer: Attendance areas define the boundary for a neighborhood school. Students that live
within this boundary are guaranteed to attend the school without filing an open enrollment
application.
Question: If my student or students currently attend Louisville Elementary, Louisville Middle or
Monarch High, will I have to open enroll next year for them to continue attending one of these
schools?
Answer: If approved by the Board of Education, the plan allows students to be “grandfathered,” or
able to continue attending their current neighborhood school in Louisville without filing for open
enrollment. This grandfathering would only apply to the school students are currently attending
and does not extend to when they advance to the next level (i.e. middle or high school).
Question: Will siblings of grandfathered students be allowed to attend the same school?
Answer: The current plan allows for siblings to attend the same school as a grandfathered student,
however the new sibling must be in the building at the same time as the grandfathered student for
at least their first year of attendance.
Question: Why is the district proposing this change?
Answer: In recent years, annexation activity along the eastern border of Louisville Elementary has
resulted in some Lafayette students attending more distant schools in Louisville. More residential
development in Lafayette is anticipated along with enrollment growth for Louisville Elementary.
The time is right to adjust the boundary so that Lafayette students can attend a nearby school
within their community and manage enrollment growth at Louisville Elementary.
Question: How can I participate in the boundary change process?
Answer: BVSD will hold a public information session to gather public input on the proposal on April
30 at Ryan Elementary (1405 Centaur Village Drive, Lafayette) from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. Community
members are encouraged to attend and offer their perspectives on the proposal. Once this
information is processed, at least two additional meetings will be held in front of the Board of
Education. These two meetings also will allow for public comment. A final decision on the proposal
is expected by June.
