SCHOLARSHIPS It is very important to check with the college you plan to attend to see what scholarships for which you may qualify. The college is a great source of scholarship monies. Make sure to apply for all of their scholarships before their deadline. Please let Mrs. Kirkindoll know when you get your college acceptance so that
we can get you on the “wall of honor”!
If you have signed with the military, please let Mrs. Kirkindoll know. We will get you
on the wall, too!
Complete the FAFSA as soon as possible, as in NOW! The earlier you apply the
better. If you need assistance, please call the East Texas Education
Opportunity Center in Longview. They offer FREE assistance for the FAFSA
and other college information. They are hosting several Free Saturdays to help:
March 28, April 18th, May 16, each day from 8:00 – 3:00. They are also open
weekdays. Call 903-757-9660 for additional information.
Be sure to read the scholarship applications thoroughly and
follow all directions. Failure to do so could make you
ineligible for the scholarship.
If you qualify for it, apply for it! The only way to not get a scholarship is to fail to
turn in an application!
Make sure to turn in the Generic Application. You will be eligible
for all local organizations who use this form. Get it in NOW!

Eligibiligy requirements include: economic hardship, 3.0 gpa, must attend college in Fall 2015, good sportsmanship, leadership, essay. Students will use the generic scholarship application for this scholarship. If you would like to apply, please submit your application and make sure your name is on the Wisinger Scholarship list. The deadline for application is March 15, 2015. Still accepting applications. East Texas Antique Tractor and Engine Association, Inc Scholarship: The East Texas Antique Tractor and Engine Association offers four $500 scholarships to graduating seniors planning to pursue higher education after high school. Applications and general rules are available on the website: www.etateci.org. The deadline is March 27. Ramsey Realty Group Scholarship: Scholarships totaling $6500 will be awarding to applicants of this scholarship. The deadline to apply is March 31. Greater Delta Waterfowl Scholarship: Any student with a strong academic background wishing to pursue a field of study at an accredited college, university or trade or technical can apply for this scholarship. The deadline is April 1. Dixie Youth Baseball Scholarship: Dixie Youth Baseball will award State and National scholarships to students who have participated in at least one year of Dixie Youth Baseball. Applications and additional information are available online at www.dixie.org. You must apply by April 1, 2015. ETEX Annual Commercial Scholarship: This scholarship is available to any senior who attends school in the Etex Telephone Cooperatives service area or whose parents are members of the cooperative. Students are to submit commercials in MPEG 4 format exactly 30 seconds in length on how Etex has connected our community or school to the rest of the world. Students can enter individually or as a team. If a team, the students will split the $500 scholarship. Deadline is April 1, 2015. Applications are available online or in the counseling office. Gladewater Round-­Up Rodeo Scholarship: Applicants should be residents of Gregg or Upshur counties. The deadline is April 1. Learning Academy Scholarship: One $500 scholarship will be awarded to a senior who attended the Learning Academy Preschool. Longview Area Association of Realtors Scholarship: The Longview Area Association of Realtors offers five scholarships to area seniors each year. Details and applications are available at www.laaronine.org . Applications are also online and in the counseling office. The deadline is April 1, 2015. Texas Dove Hunters Association Scholarship: This association will be awarding 9, $500 scholarships this year. Apply at texasdovehunters.com by April 2. Upshur County Aggie Mom’s Club Scholarship: Upshur county senior’s planning to attend A&M University may apply by April 4. Don’t Mess with Texas Scholarship: One $6000 and two $2000 scholarships will be given by sponsor Forester and in partnership with Keep Texas Beautiful. Applicants must write a 300-­‐350 essay explaining how a creative or sustainable solution they developed addressed a litter prevention message in their area or in Texas. Society of Petroleum Engineers Scholarship: Students planning to major in petroleum, mechanical, or chemical engineering at an accredited university may apply for this scholarship. Apply at www.easttexas.spe.org by April 6. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority: This requires completion of the application, three letters of recommendation, a transcript and an essay. The deadline is April 8. East Texas Farm and Ranch Club Scholarship: Student interested in an agriculture discipline are eligible for this scholarship. To apply go to www.etstatefair.com/p/about/149. Apply by April 15, 2015. Greater Longview Soccer Association Scholarship: Students must be a graduating senior, accepted into college and played soccer with GLSA and currently playing soccer. Applications are available in the counseling office. The application deadline is April 15, 2015. Gregg County Retired Teachers Association Scholarship: A $500 scholarship will be awarded to a student who is a relative of a retired or current Gregg county educator. Applications are available in the counseling office. The deadline has been extended to April 15. Country Patches Quilt Guild Scholarship: $750 will be awarded to the recipient of this scholarship. Region 7 Association of Office Personnel Scholarship: A $750 scholarship to Kilgore College will be awarded to the recipient of this scholarship. Applicants must be planning to attend Kilgore College and major in secretarial, business or technology. Apply by April 24. Gregg County Bar Association Scholarship: Three $1000 scholarships will be awarded to students in Gregg county who complete this application which includes an essay over the importance of the right to a trial by jury and the role of an attorney in the community. The deadline to apply is April 30. Republican Women of East Texas Scholarship: This scholarship is for students residing in Upshur county who plan to pursue higher education. Apply by April 30. Southeast States Pupil Transportation Scholarships: Students whose parents are actively employed as a school bus driver, bus aide/monitor, bus mechanic, director of transportation services, bus supervisor, bus driver trainer, bus mechanic, bus safety inspector may apply for this scholarship. Apply by April 30. Texas Hospitality Association Scholarships: $10,000 in scholarships will be awarded to high school graduates . You must design a poster conveying the theme, “If you are under 21, it’s illegal to consume or purchase alcoholic beverages in Texas”. Upshur County Rural Electric Co-­op Scholarship: Student’s parents must receive their electricity from Upshur County Electric Co-­‐op. Apply by May 1. Upshur Rural Scholarship: Applicants must be graduating seniors whose parents or legal guardians are active members of Upshur Rural Electric Cooperative. They are awarding two, $4000 scholarships, two $2000 technical school scholarships, and thirty $800 scholarships. Applications are available online or in the counseling office. The deadline is May 1, 2015. Gladewater Former Students Association Scholarship: A minimum of two $1000 scholarships will be awarded to Gladewater High School graduates who apply for this scholarship. An essay is also required. Complete the application thoroughly, leaving nothing blank. The deadline is May 4. Texas Interscholastic Foundation: TILF provides scholarships to students who participate in UIL academic and music competitions. Students who compete at the UIL Academic State Meet or who qualify as an Outstanding Soloist at the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest at least once in their high school career and who plan to attend a Texas college or university are eligible. Vietnam Veterans Association Chapter 987 William Perkins Scholarship Committee: Applicants must be a veteran, or grandchild or immediate family member of a Vietnam veteran. One scholarship will be give to a student planning a career in nursing, one planning a career as a first responder, and one choosing another discipline. The deadline is May 30, 2015. Applications are available online and in the counseling office. LeTourneau University Scholarships – LeTourneau University offers many scholarships from academic to specific majors. Your application for admission is your scholarship application, so apply early. Go to www.letu.edu/scholarships Future of East Texas Grant: This grant is for students whose zip codes start with 756, along with the following zip codes: 75701-­‐75709, 75762, 75771, and 75792. Students must live on campus and attend LeTourneau University. In addition, they must major in the school of Aviation & Aeronautical Science, Arts and Sciences, Business or Education. An essay is also required. The topic is, “How my dreams will make the future of East Texas brighter”. This is a $4,500 per year renewable scholarships. Information is available at www.letu.edu/Admissions/Future_of_East_Texas_Housing_Incentive/ Have your parents check with their employers. Sometimes there are scholarship opportunities there! Make sure to check with your college to see if they have the same
application for admission and scholarship application. Make sure
your meet the application deadlines for each!
Have you taken the SAT or ACT? If not, get registered
for the next test. Fee Waivers are available in the
counseling office if you need one.
Final Class Rank – Final class rank will be computed at the end of the fifth
sixth weeks.
Remember that you must have a Meningitis vaccine before you attend a college class on campus. It is recommended that you go ahead and take care of this now. Waiting until the summer could result in having a difficult time finding a place with a vaccine. TSI – If you are not TSI exempt, now is the time to plan to take
the TSI so that you can register for fall college classes. You can
register for the TSI at www.kilgore.edu Exemptions include an
ACT score of 23 or higher with at least a 19 on the English and
math or a SAT score of 1070 with at least a 500 on the critical
reading and the math.
