APRIL—JUNE 2015
Principal’s Message
We are beginning the last quarter of this
academic year. The 4th quarter is an important
and busy time that seems to pass extra fast.
Academically students and teachers are
working to ensure that key concepts and core
objectives have been successfully learned or
experienced. We want to continue emphasizing
the importance of extending learning beyond
the classroom. This includes studying and
completing assignments at home and after
school tutoring. Students who will use their
binders, review their class notes at home, and
practice outside of class will greatly increase
their ability to learn and remember the essential
concepts.
We also have great teachers who work hard
preparing insightful and engaging lessons and
who are willing to give time to help where extra
help is needed. I want to thank students and
teachers for a great year through these three
quarters and parents and the community for
supporting Jefferson and our students and
staff.
Spring is nearing and the weather is warming,
that means more students walking to school.
We want to remind students that they need to
be careful as they walk to school. It is important
to stay on the sidewalks through the
neighborhoods and on main streets. When
crossing a major street such as 5600 West or
6200 South remember to only cross at stoplight
crosswalks. Students should not be jumping
fences or crossing into private property.
NO SCHOOL
We have wonderful students here at Jefferson
who are accomplishing great things as they
work to prepare themselves for high school, for
college, and for their future careers.
Have a great last quarter, and go Patriots!
.

It has been a busy year with lots of activities going on. In January, the Administration and Counselors
met with all the principals and 6th grade teachers from Bacchus, Bridger, Beehive, and Diamond Ridge in order to plan for the incoming 7th grade students for the 2015-16 school year. As a follow through for this meeting, our yearly Jump to Jefferson night was held in February 25th and 26th which gave 6th grade parents and
students an opportunity to visit Jefferson Jr. and discuss class selection cards with the counselors, Mrs. Jensen,
and Mrs. Patrick.
Under the direction of the 8th grade Counselor, Mrs. Jensen, a new program called Kickin’ it to Kearns
was held the evenings of February 17, 18, and 19. All eighth grade students and their parents were invited to
come and learn more about College and Career Readiness, find out results of the ACT/Explore test, and
discuss class selections for 9th grade at Kearns High. On February 26, 8th grade students had the opportunity
to take a field trip to Kearns High School to learn about extracurricular activities offered there, as well as take
a tour of the many CTE (Career and Technology Education) classes that are offered for 9 th grade students. On
February 27, the high school counselors came to Jefferson Jr. in order to help 8th grade students sign up for
their 9th grade classes.
Seventh grade students received their 8th grade class selection cards the week of February 9-12th. Mrs.
Patrick has been meeting with individual students for their CCR Plans (College and Career Plans). Students
who have had their CCR Plan received a colored folder with information to take home and share with their
parents. Mrs. Patrick has also been teaching College and Career related lessons in Ms. Bolman’s CTE classes.
These classes are geared to help students learn about themselves and their interests, personality, and learning
styles, as well as how to make good decisions.
We are very interested and concerned about all the students here at Jefferson. Don’t hesitate to call us
if you have questions about your student’s education. The most important thing a student can do to be
successful in high school is to work hard and do their best in 7th and 8th grade!
