Students will research famous figures in history and will be responsible for conducting thorough research on the topic. They will also be responsible for finding credible sources, determining which information is useful to their paper's goal, creating an outline, and creating a bibliography. Our wonderful librarian, Mrs. Hales, will be helping the students with the research process. For this last grading period, the English 2 students will read and analyze two texts: Anthem by Ayn Rand and Hiroshima by John Hersey. English 2 Pre-DCstudents will be exploring different social issues in an independent study unit to help strengthen their research skills, critical reading skills, and critical writing skills. In addition, students will be reading and analyzing different historical speeches and noteworthy essays. English 3 students will begin reading The Great Gatsby this last six weeks. English 4 students will begin reading Jane Eyre for their last read of the school year. English 3 Dual Credit students recently finished reading and watching the video of The Glass Menagerie. Students will be reading and watching the video of Death of a Salesman and Of Mice and Men. A research paper on one of the two plays or the novel using literary criticism will be required and count as a major grade. English 4 Dual Credit students finished Jane Eyre and will write a paper on one of the themes. Students will then write papers on British Romanticism in poetry and studying romantic poetry. They will follow that with Realism, Naturalism, and Victorian Literature and reading 19th and some 20th century short stories. History Department The History Department is still working hard on STAAR readiness for US History. Students are right on target for their upcoming test. Big thanks to Mrs. Beierle on her hard work with the freshman Geography classes. And finally, the seniors in Economics are winding down their 5th six weeks and getting ready for graduation. Counseling Department The Counselor’s office is busy registering students for the 15-16 school year as well as administering the TSI test for prospective dual credit students for next year. With the addition of the two new programs, TSI testing is offered after school and on Saturday mornings. Seniors who have not met TSI compliance are also eligible to test at MHS for college entrance. Seniors are busy preparing for graduation, filling out scholarship applications and looking for summer jobs. The counselor’s office stays busy helping students in any way possible during this time of the year. Scholarship winners are starting to trickle in, and MHS students are doing well in the process. We are looking forward to recognizing the seniors at Senior Honors Night on May 18th.
