At Science Friday (www.sciencefriday.com) we’ve spent 24 years exploring everything from the outer reaches of space to the tiniest microbes in our bodies. We’re great at broadcasting science and we’ve always been digital innovators–we created the first podcast in public media, and we streamed a radio show online way back in 1993. But we don’t stop there, we also have cool videos, original web reporting, and a whole array of educational content linked or our media, which is where you come in. We have a job opening for an Education Program Assistant. The Education Program Assistant at Science Friday will be responsible for supporting the creation, distribution, use, and evaluation of Science Friday content in both formal and informal science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) learning settings. The education program assistant will support educators in a wide variety of education settings with Science Friday media education resources, and transcripts as well as facilitate correspondence with educators during evaluation cycles. S/he will also work to improve educator access to Science Friday’s free resources by supporting their transition to other digital spaces including partner websites, resource repositories, and digital libraries. This position will work to support a variety of new and existing educational partnerships as Science Friday seeks opportunities to further STEM education across and beyond our various platforms. The Education Program Assistant will assist with all our educational outreach activities. S/he will actively collaborate with the Education Program Manager to support the publication and promotion of new Science Friday education resources online, at professional conferences, local STEM outreach events, and to partner organizations. This position will include many opportunities to use educator feedback to contribute to the improved accessibility, format engagement, appearance, and transmissibility of Science Friday educational resources. The ideal candidate has experience communicating the value of STEM education to diverse audiences and loves working with and learning from other educators. Education, experience, and skills: § Bachelor’s degree in science or education required; Master's degree in science or education preferred; § At least two years of formal K-12 STEM teaching experience required, additional experience in informal learning settings preferred; § Experience aligning lessons, experiments, and resources to Common Core State Standards and Next Generation Science Standards; § An understanding of the challenges educators face, with an interest to learn more about regional and individual educator needs as national standards are adopted and implemented; § Willingness to travel to national conferences, events, and partner meetings; § A “people person” with the comfort level to be able to make new connections, cultivate long-term relationships with educators and partners, and serve as an organizational representative; § A responsive digital communicator with experience managing projects and professional correspondence with multiple stakeholders; § Familiarity with recent educational innovations incorporating digital media as tools for learning; § Technology skills including MS Office, Google applications, social networking platforms, photo and audio editing software, mobile and tablet technologies, and web content management systems; § Ability to proof read and fact-check informational text for distribution to large public audience, natural intuition for grade-level appropriateness of multimedia helpful; The Science Friday Initiative is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, age, sex, religion, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, or in any other way prohibited by state and federal law. § § § § Has a positive attitude and conducts him/herself with a high degree of integrity.
