TRAINING MANUAL A Letter from Jessica Dear Friends, It is with great pleasure that I present to you the most exciting new addition to the JESSICA family of products in twenty years. Times have changed and the lives of women today are busier than ever. To answer that demand I decided to tap into some of the breakthrough technology available in our industry and develop a service and product line that caters to today’s active women. Using my expertise in natural nail care we were able to develop a product that is quick, easy and long lasting that protects the natural nail while providing a beautiful, lustrous manicure I am proud to introduce, GELeration ™, the most sophisticated soak-off manicure and pedicure service available today. With patent-pending technology, this gel in a bottle is applied like polish with durable strength. GELeration soak-off polish lasts for more than three weeks without chipping, peeling or fading and is easily applied and removed in minutes. The beauty of the range is that if you know how to perform a manicure, you can easily follow the simple application and removal process. Many of you are JESSICA trained professionals so the application will be even easier. The polishing techniques you have learned with the JESSICA System help create a beautiful gel application. It also allows for an easy transition between gel and natural manicures enabling your client to grow her own healthy, natural nails. We are confident that we have put together a comprehensive program and marketing support that will help you successfully introduce GELeration in your spa or salon This is truly a unique product that provides exciting growth opportunities. Thank you and welcome to The Next GELeration! Kind regards, JESSICA Welcome to GELeration - JESSICA’s innovative new soft gel technology. The purpose of this training course is for you to gain knowledge and understanding in JESSICA’s new GELeration Soak-Off Gel Polish system. In addition to the range of JESSICA polishes already available, you will now have an opportunity to offer an even longer lasting manicure and pedicure (3-4 weeks). Clients can choose from the same JESSICA colours they know and love, and will experience the same care and attention they have come to expect from a JESSICA treatment. Gels have been active in our industry now for decades. JESSICA’s new soft gel system is easy to soak off and will preserve the natural nail underneath. Many hard gels have to be buffed off, which means excessive stress on the natural nail. With this new system you can use your already excellent manicure techniques and add a new skill that your clients will love. The ultimate goal in this training session is to be comfortable with the new gels and how to apply them. You will learn how to sculpt a broken nail, extend a nail and overlay a nail all while “preserving the natural nail”! This techinique is what sets a JESSICA manicure apart from the competition. It is crucial that you ensure that the client understands this is much less damaging than a hard gel or an acrylic nail as there is minimal filing involved! Feel free to ask as many questions as you need. And remember relax and have fun……good luck!!! Why GELeration? GELeration embraces JESSICA’s philosophy of care and protection for the natural nail. New technology, New technique. Some of the benefits of Geleration… • No trauma to the natural nail. • Protects the natural nail as it grows underneath • Mess free, easy application (Gel in a polish bottle includes its own brush). • Glides on like a polish, performs like a gel. • Quicker and easier to use than conventional gel systems. • Instantly dry. • Flexibility to use GELeration along with JESSICA Custom Colours. • JESSICA’s top selling colours available in an extra protective Geleration polish. • Fume free. • Odorless • Extra strength and longevity for manicures. Health and Safety A chemical is everything you can see or touch except light and electricity. Controlling the substances you work with is of vital importance. CONTROL OF SUBSTANCES HAZARDOUS TO HEALTH • All JESSICA products have a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). • Ensure working environment is always safe and clean. • Keep products away from naked flames. • Always follow manufacturers guidelines. • Store products in a safe cool, dark place away from sunlight. • Make sure all lids are securely closed. • Contact local authority for advice on disposal. • Dispose of in correct fashion. • Clean up spills immediately. • Do not tip any products down the sink. • Keep products away from children at all times. • Avoid overexposure. Overexposure is prolonged and repeated exposure beyond levels specified as safe by regulatory agencies. MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS (MSDS) • Substance Identification and Company Information. • Composition and Ingredient Information. • Hazardous Identification. • First Aid Measures. • Fire Fighting methods. • Accidental Release Measures. • Handling and Storage. • Stability and Reactivity. • Toxicological Information. • Disposable Consideration. • Transportation Information. • Regulatory Information. Overexposure WHAT IS A CHEMICAL? Everything you can see or touch except light and electricity. The word ‘CHEMICAL’ is one of the most feared and misunderstood words in the English language. A perfect example of a chemical is H2O (water). All chemicals have safe and unsafe levels of use. The only time a chemical will become dangerous is when you over expose yourself to it. Know the difference between: Irritations and Allergic Reactions. IRRITATION A skin irritation is like a warning sign: take this seriously! It is usually momentary itchiness and skin can appear red in places where exposure has been. If you stop exposing the skin the irritation will disappear. ALLERGIC REACTION Continued exposure of a product on your soft tissue will eventually give you a permanent allergy. An example would be touching the gel and then not washing your hands, or touching a client’s cuticle area with the gel. It is not a polish! BEWARE you may give them an allergic reaction. To avoid allergies: • Change towels regularly • Never touch soft tissue with your Gels • Wash hands between clients • Wipe your builder brush in clarify occasionally to avoid gel build up • Fully cure your Gels for the time specified Product Knowledge GELeration SOAK-OFF GEL POLISH LATEST SOFT GEL TECHNOLOGY GELeration is the most advanced formulation for soft gels enabling a thinner application that forms beautifully to the shape of the nail. Tight, clenched hands and arms often reflect insecurity and unresolved anger, tension in the arms can cause headaches, neck pain and aching shoulders. A hand massage feels surprisingly good. A lot of tension creeps into the hands and a thorough massage is a reminder of how much pent-up emotion can be released. 1. These lines which have been described as “channels of living magnetic energy”, flow through the body and sometimes get blocked. With this massage, your can help release tension (blockages) and by working along the meridians, the Therapist summons energy to the place that most needs it, dispersing trapped energy from areas where it is congested, this restoring balance. It can be easily soaked off Your natural nail grows underneath WHY • Always explain WHY you would use this product • WHY does the client want this product and not another on the market • WHY is it so different to others For example: Geleration is safer for the natural nail than a hard gel. Yes,but it is vital that polish is completely dry first. A completely dry nails takes at least 2 -3 hours. 2. Can we sculpt gel on anyone? Not successfully, be advised problem nails will not last as long as those with good natural nails and nails that are too short may lift or peel. 3. Should we sell a top coat to keep shine on the nails? No, Geleration Gels were developed so they keep their shine and don’t yellow. 4. Is Erase Soak-off Gel Remover really quicker than any other soak-off? Yes, try it and see! If you put hands in Jessica Thermal Mittens, it speeds up removal process. 5. How do we clean the lamp? With an alcohol based product. 6. Does our lamp work with other products and visa versa? Yes as long as other lamps you use are 36 Watts. Please note that there are very inexpensive lights on the market and they may not cure as well. You may have to adjust cure items. 7. Are Gels weaker than acrylics? Yes. 8. Is it true that you can feel a burning sensation with Gels? Only if a nail plate is damaged or very thin will the client be able to feel heat. To overcome this, just remove their finger from the lamp for a few seconds, and then continue. 9. Can you use artificial tips with GELeration? Yes but JESSICA does not recommend this as it can damage the natural nail. Sculpting is an option if you need to extend in cases of a broken nail or special event. Frequently Asked Questions 10. Because Gel does not have an odour does this mean it is safer than acrylic? No, Gels are not meant to touch soft tissue, the same as acrylics. Follow application guidelines. – Should clients take gels off to let natural nails breathe after a while? No, there is no scientific evidence to suggest a nail needs to ‘breathe’. 12. W hy do I sometimes have a problem curing the manicure? There are a few reasons why you may experience difficulty in curing: • Each application mustvery thin. Many times the application is too thick and curing issues. It is always better to apply product sparingly. • Check your UV lamp, make sure it is in good working order. The longeryou use the lamp, the more power it loses and dramatically effects curing times. For best results change light bulbs every 3-4 months. 13. Why do I sometimes experience difficulty removing the gels? The longer you have the gels on the nail, the longer they will take to remove. A GELeration manicure of 2weeks will remove faster than a gel manicure on for 4weeks.It is also very important to break the seal. If the seal is not filed enough, the gels will not remove easily. Can I fill my gel colour with another bottle of the same colour. We do not recommend this. Can we polish over the gel manicure with JESSICA CUSTOM COLOUR? Yes. If your client’s nail grows quickly, they could apply a coat of the matching JESSICA CUSTOM COLOUR followed by BRILLIANCE to extend the life of the GELeration Manicure.
