JOB DESCRIPTION – Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator (SENDCo) Name: Date last reviewed: Salary: L4 Line Manager: Vice Principal Core Purpose: To ensure a consistent whole Academy approach to achieving high standards through the high quality delivery of SEND support by all staff. To ensure the Academy is meeting all of its legal responsibilities relating to SEND. To maintain and promote the Academy’s pursuit of excellence in all professional practice. To fully implement all Academy policies and procedures. To line manage the Inclusion department Key Accountabilities (General): Advise and support individual staff and HoS in meeting the needs of young people with SEND. To ensure staff are differentiating learning content to meet the identified needs of young people with SEND that enables them to make progress. To review and update the SEND policy. To make applications and co-ordinate Formal Assessment, where appropriate. To conduct and co-ordinate reviews for students with Education and Health Care Plans. To oversee the reviewing and reporting process for young people on the SEND register. Ensure that young people’s performance targets are set, monitored and reported and that provision mapping is completed. To ensure teaching staff use Inclusion Assistants (IAs) as effectively as possible in the planning and delivery of learning for young people with SEND. To performance manage Inclusion Assistants, the Inclusion Manager and the Assistant Inclusion Manager. To develop the Inclusion Team’s use and handling of data to monitor the progress of young people with SEND, implementing and recording interventions as required To create annually, a tailored, relevant CPD programme for all staff within the Academy. To create annually, a tailored, relevant CPD programme for the Inclusion Team in conjunction with the Inclusion Manager. To quality assure evidence pertaining to the effective use by staff of: o key information (SEN register, student passports, annual review summaries etc) o differentiation o deployment of IAs o displays and support material for young people with SEND Assist the Transition Co-ordinator with the progression and transfer of young people with SEND. Prioritise and manage own time effectively, particularly in relation to managing the demands made by teaching, leadership and working with the Inclusion Team.
