A WALK IN PURSUIT OF SERVING HUMANITY GET INVOLVED TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE Gift of Sight Project - Masroor Eye Hospital Millions of people in developing countries suffer from poor eyesight or even blindness because they lack decent nutrition and sanitation, glasses or access to simple surgery. In the poorest countries, up to 20 million people suffer from cataract blindness and around 180 million suffer from significant visual disability. Majlis Ansarullah UK is committed to helping the most vulnerable people of subSaharan Africa. In the last 5 years, it has raised money to perform over 21,000 successful cataract eye surgeries to help such people behold again the beautiful colours of life. As part of this initiative, Majlis Ansarullah UK has pledged to raise £500,000 over the next 3 years to build a modern, state of the art Masroor Eye Hospital in a sub-Saharan African country dedicated to the provision of ongoing eye medical care to a people much in need. "That he/she shall keep himself/herself occupied in the service of God's creatures for His sake only; and shall endeavor to benefit mankind to the best of his/her God-given abilities and powers" Promised Messiah (as) Reg. 219279 Reg. 1095197 Reg. 225971 ‘Love For All Hatred For None’ A project of Majlis Ansarullah UK Water is essential for life and yet more than 30% of people around the globe cannot access safe drinking water and over 40% lack proper sanitation. These factors lead to increasing disease and premature deaths. In sub-Saharan Africa and parts of Asia, women walk for miles to get access to poor quality water for their families. Water for Life Project Majlis Ansarullah UK is committed to providing sustainable safe and clean drinking water to the underprivileged people of Africa and Asia. In recent years the Charity Walk for Peace has raised over £85,000 to support Water for Life projects in various parts of Africa and Asia enabling tens of thousands to have access to clean drinking water. Our mission, actuated not by considerations of reciprocity, recompense or reputation but rather by our desire to win the pleasure of God through service to His creation, is to help society, to support charitable endeavours, to work to secure the common good, to demonstrate loyalty to county and nation, and to defend the dignity of mankind. The Ahmadiyya Movement in Islam was founded by Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) in 1889 who claimed to be the Promised Messiah of the latter days. Since its inception, the Community has tirelessly strived to present the true interpretation of Islam with the aim of spreading peace and uniting communities through its motto, “Love for All Hatred for None”. Helping the less fortunate, the community has opened more than 700 schools and over 40 hospitals and dispensaries in the poorest regions of the world, operating purely for the service of humanity without any profit-making motives whatsoever. The UK Chapter of The Ahmadiyya Movement in Islam was established in 1913. We are thrilled at Action for Children to have been chosen again to be a beneficiary of the legendary ‘Walk for Peace’. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Association have been incredibly generous supporters of the charity over the last eight years and we are so grateful for all the donations and help we have received from them. Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) Community Fundraiser – London We have been organising these charity walks for the past 28 years. In 2010 the walk was given a name “Charity Walk for Peace” to mirror our mission statement. This is an annual event organised to benefit various charities that provides practical help and support to the most vulnerable people. In the past five years alone Charity walk for peace has raised 1.3 million pounds which has been donated to 136 local, national and Mayoral charities including £250,000 to Her Majesty’s charitable causes. Lucy Polling The British Heart Foundations Partnership with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association The partnership was established nearly five years ago, and the British Heart Foundation (BHF) has been enormously grateful for the fundraising support it has received from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association (AMA). Across the UK members of AMA have taken part in a number of initiatives and activities to help fund the vital and pioneering work undertaken by the BHF. I would like to thank each and everyone of them for their commitment. On behalf of BHF I would like to thank each AMA member for joining us in our fight for every heartbeat. We look forward to a long and continued partnership with the Ahmadiyya Community. Hadhrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad (ra) Development of the Walks Under the guidance of its current spiritual leader, His Holiness, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the Fifth Successor to the Promised Messiah, the Community remains actively engaged in the service of humanity around the world, regardless of their colour, caste or creed. This money makes a huge difference to the UK’s most neglected and vulnerable young people that we support. Every year we are overwhelmed by the amazing organisation that goes into making it happen and we can’t wait for the 2015 walk! Lucy Polling The Ahmadiyya Muslim Association In the UK, to translate Islam’s emphasis on charitable endeavours into action, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community started holding Charity Walks in 1985. A distinctive feature of these events is that no administrative costs are deducted. All operational costs are met by membership subscriptions and all organisation is done by unpaid volunteers. Thus every single penny raised goes to charity. These walks have raised millions of pounds over the years for numerous national and local charities. Charity Walk for Peace is an independent charitable arm of elders of Ahmadiyya Muslim Association UK. Ahmadiyya Muslim community advocates peace, tolerance, human welfare and social harmony in the society. Our motto is “Love for all Hatred for None”. Action for Children Mission Statement Drawing motivation from the tenets of Islam which regard service to humanity as a moral prerogative, a spiritual privilege and a religious duty, the Charity Walk for Peace aims to relieve the suffering of the poor, the destitute and the marginalised, and to promote peace, understanding and goodwill amongst peoples of all walks of life. ACHIEVEMENTS Chief Executive Simon Gillespie The distinctive feature of charity walk for peace is that all organisers are unpaid volunteers and no administrative costs are deducted. Without these individuals “Charity Walk for Peace” would not be the success that it is today, and we are very grateful for their hard work and generosity. Mr Muhammad Ahmad of Purley is 84 years old, an incredibly passionate Charity Champion who has been involved in charity walks for more than 25 years raising thousands of pounds. Since the walks began, he has participated in every single Charity walk organised by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in the UK. He has inspired many people to walk for the good and has received many prizes and awards for being the oldest walker completing the walks. For too long isolation has been virtually inevitable for blind young people, bringing with it anxiety and depression. We are determined to do something about this, but rely on the kindness of people fundraising for us. I wish this year’s walk every success and want to thank the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community for their continued friendship and generosity.
