Course Syllabus
Course Description
The Communication in English course reveals how to implement oral proceedings to achieve
our goals. At the same time, scholars reach a level of efficiency in the management of the
word; by using the appropriate techniques to achieve a better understanding of the oral skills.
The class practices in this course aim to potentiate the interaction and communication to turn
the idea into words and words into actions.
Course Objectives
 To develop oral skills to express opinions clearly and accurately.

To improve public speaking skills, as well as the ability to influence others in different
contexts with respect.

To express exactly what you want to say or communicate in an appropriate tone so
that the receiver decodes it analytically.
Policies
 You are not allowed to eat in class; however, you can have any drink you desire as
water or juice.
 You are not allowed to use your cellphone in class unless it is used for academic
purposes.
 You are allowed to go to the bathroom every day without asking permission to the
instructor. However, you will have to go when you are sure that any other student of
your class is in there. In addition, you will have five minutes to come back to class.
 You are allowed to arrive 10 minutes late for your class. If you show up more than ten
minutes late, you will be able to enter to the classroom. However, you will not be able
to sign the attendance sheet.
 There is not any kind of permission to be absent.
 If you are absent from class, you will not be able to take any kind of evaluation on a
later day. Unless, the absence was caused by an abnormal situation.
 If you did badly in any evaluation, you will not be able to take another chance to
improve your score. Unless, it is due to a very special situation. Remember that there
are a lot of opportunities to get a good score during the term.
 As you are scholar, you are expected to behave properly. It means that you must show
respect in the classrooms and outside. You should take care of all the facilities in the
university, such as desks, walls, libraries, and so on.
 Positive attitude is always required in the class.
Grading
This English course will take into account seven parameters to evaluate your performance.
 Attendance. It is your duty to be present every day in English classes. Your attendance
will be a total of ten per week. You must have at least 70% of attendance in order to
approve the level.
 Homework. The objective of homework is to reinforce what you are learning in
college. Every day you will have assignments to complete at home. They represent a
total of 10 % of your grade.





Classwork and group work. Classwork and group work have the objective to reinforce
what you learn in class, and develop group-work skills. These types of activities are
essential to your learning development. They represent the 20% of your total grade.
Academic papers. In order to prepare yourself for future academic assignments, you
will learn how to write academic papers. They represent the 20 % of your total grade.
Portfolio. All of your progress must be documented. Documents that reflect your
progress consist in classwork, homework, tests, academic papers, and foldables. The
portfolio represents the 20% of your total grade.
Formative assessment Formative assessment is really useful to improve the teaching
and learning practice. You will take oral tests and quizzes every month. Formative
assessment is the 20% of your total grade.
Summative test Summative tests assess how much you have learned in the entire term.
It represents the 10% of your total grade.
