INTRODUCTION
INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF MEDICAL STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION
(IFMSA)
The International Federation of Medical Students'
Associations (IFMSA) is a non- governmental organization representing
associations of medical students. It was founded in May 1951, and
currently maintains 123 member organizations from 116 countries on
six continents. IFMSA envisions a world in which all medical students
unite for global health and are equipped with the knowledge, skills and
values to take on health leadership roles locally and globally.
The main activities of IFMSA are student exchanges and different
projects. Around 10 000 medical students each year participate in
international medical student exchanges, both professional and
academic (research). IFMSA organizes projects, programs, seminars and
workshops on areas of public health, medical education, reproductive
health and human rights and peace.
Overview of Nigeria
Nigeria is often referred to as the "Giant of Africa", owing to its
large population and economy. With approximately 174 million
inhabitants, Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa and
the seventh most populous country in the world. Nigeria has one of the
largest populations of youth in the world. The country is inhabited by
over 500 ethnic groups, of which the three largest are
the Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba. Regarding religion, Nigeria is roughly
divided in half between Christians, who live mostly in the southern and
central parts of the country, and Muslims, concentrated mostly in the
northern and southwestern regions. A minority of the population
practice religions indigenous to Nigeria, such as those native
to Igbo and Yoruba peoples.
NIGERIAN MEDICAL STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATIONS
The Nigerian Medical Students’ Association (NiMSA) is an
independent, non-religious, non-political, non-governmental, not-forprofit youth organization. It is an umbrella body for all medical
students in Nigeria which is under the supervision of our parent body,
the Nigeria Medical Association.
NiMSA was founded in 1968 in order to foster unity and co-operation
among Nigerian medical students and to afford us a front to tackle
pertinent issues bedevilling health in our immediate society and the
world at large.
An affiliate of the International Federation of Medical Students
Associations (IFMSA), NiMSA seeks among other things;
 To be the forum of medical students in Nigeria where issues
pertaining to health, education and medicine are discussed and
to formulate action plans to carry out appropriate activities.
 To act as a mechanism for medical students professional
exchange and projects.
 To train, empower and raise change agents towards addressing
health and other related issues that pose a threat to our world.
To this end NiMSA works tirelessly with the Government, local and
international NGOs and other related bodies to tackle issues including
Gender based violence and reproductive rights, environmental
hazards, outreaches etc.

borders lies the Atlantic Ocean 22% of its 3,577 km2 are lagoons and
creeks. It is the most populous city in Nigeria and the second fastest
growing city in Africa and the 7th in the world.

here are a lot of places to visit in Lagos; these include the National
Museum, The Silverbird Gallery, The National Arts Theathre, Freedom
Park, Eko Tourist Beach Resort, Whispering Palm Beach resort, The BarBeach, Lekki Conservation Center and lots more.
IBADAN
Ibadan is located in south-western Nigeria. It is the capital of Oyo State,
and is reputed to be the largest indigenous city in Africa, south of the
Sahara. Ibadan had been the centre of administration of the old
Western Region, Nigeria since the days of the British colonial rule. It is
situated 78 miles inland from Lagos, and is a prominent transit point
between the coastal region and the areas to the north. Parts of the
city's ancient protective walls still stand till today, and its population is
estimated to be about 3,800,000 according to 2006 estimates. The
principal inhabitants of the city are the Yoruba.
Ibadan, surrounded by seven hills, is the second largest city in Nigeria. It
came into existence when bands of Yoruba renegades following the
collapse of the Yoruba Oyo Empire, began settling in the area towards
the end of the 18th century; attracted by its strategic location between
the forests and the plains. Its pre-colonial history centered on
militarism, imperialism and violence. The military sanctuary expanded
even further when refugees began arriving in large numbers from
northern Oyo following raids by Fulani warriors. Ibadan grew into an
impressive and sprawling urban center so much that by the end of
1829, Ibadan dominated the Yoruba region militarily, politically and
economically.
Some of the Places that would be visited in Ibadan include the Cocoa
House (which is the first skyscraper in Africa), The Ibadan museum,
University of Ibadan and the Aare Hill.
EKITI
. The main staple food of the people of Ekiti is pounded yam with Isapa
soup or vegetable soup. Natural resources Ekiti land is naturally
endowed with numerous natural resources. The state is potentially rich
in mineral deposits. These include granite, kaolin, columbite,
channockete, iron ore, baryte, aquamine, gemstone, phosphate,
limestone, gold among others. They are largely deposited in different
towns and villages of Ijero, Ekiti West, Ado - Ekiti, Ikole, Ikere, Ise-Ekiti
and other Local Government Areas.
The Land is also blessed with water resources, some of its major rivers
are Ero, Osun, Ose, and Ogbese. More so a variety of tourist attractions
abound in the state namely, Ikogosi Warm Spring, Ipole - Iloro Water
Falls, Olosunta hills, Ikere, Fajuyi Memorial Park Ado - Ekiti and so on.
The Ikogosi tourist centre is the most popular and the most developed.
The warm spring is a unique natural feature, and supporting facilities
are developed in the centre. The spring is at present being processed
and packaged into bottled water for commercial purpose by a private
company - UAC Nigeria.
Moreover, the land is buoyant in agricultural resources with cocoa as its
leading cash crop. It was largely known that Ekiti land constituted well
over 40% of the cocoa products of the famous old Western Region. The
land is also known for its forest resources, notably timber. Because of
the favorable climatic conditions, the land enjoys luxuriant vegetation,
thus, it has abundant resources of different species of timber. Food
crops like yam, cassava, and also grains like rice and maize are grown in
large qualities. Other notable crops like kola nut and varieties of fruits
are also cultivated in commercial quantities.
