Fact Sheet 2015 WHERE THE MONEY GOES: Gambling Revenues in British Columbia In fiscal 2013/14, BCLC delivered over $1 billion in net income for the province of British Columbia. BCLC’s net income contribution is a vital portion of the provincial budget - helping to fund health care, education and important services and programs across B.C. Revenues: • In 2013/14, BCLC generated $1.175 billion in net income for the Province of BC. • These funds are used for health care, education, municipal and charitable programs. o $756.9 million to public service programs including health care and education. o $147.3 million to the Provincial Health Special Account for health care, research and education. Host Local Governments: • Host Local Governments (HLG) that have casinos or community gaming centres within their borders receive a share of net income generated by those facilities. o $86.9 million was disbursed among 31 HLGs. These host governments decide how to allocate resources. Support of Community Programs – Community Gaming Grants: • Community gaming grants are distributed by the provincial government through the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch. • Gaming grants are delivered to non-profit organizations throughout B.C. to support arts and culture, sports for youth and people with a disability, public safety, human and social services, parent advisory councils, and district parent advisory councils. o In 2013/14, over 5,000 charitable and community organizations benefited from $135 million in gaming grants. Retailers and Service Providers: • Business partnerships with lottery retailers and service providers play an important role in providing service to customers across the province. • BCLC service providers operate over 12,100 slot machines in casinos across the province. • There are nearly 4,000 Lottery Retailers across the province. • Nearly 37,000 people are employed through BC’s gambling industry. o In 2013/14, lottery players in B.C. won $615.7 million in prizes.
