Rewards for
Guildford
The expansion and redevelopment at
Guildford Town Centre was a huge
undertaking demanding a dedicated
team.
In 2014, this was acknowledged through
the many awards the redevelopment
project attracted. Among them:
• Winner of the Retail Development
category at the 2014 Commercial Real
Estate Awards of Excellence;
• International Council of Shopping
Centres (ICSC) 2014 Maple Leaf GOLD
Award for Marketing Excellence in the
category Grand Opening, Expansion and
Renovation for “Yours, GTC” campaign;
• Winner in “Beautiful City” Category
2014 City Awards, hosted by the City of
Surrey;
• Won the Surrey Board of Trade’s
Environment and Business Award;
• Visual Victories Awards handed Funk
'n' Frost first place for Best Store Design
and second place for Best Store Signage;
• GTC Ledcor, General Contractor for
the GTC redevelopment, won a Silver

Walls, won Western Living’s Landscape
Designer of the Year 2014;
• Wanes Custom Woodworks Inc. won
two Silver Architectural Woodwork
Manufacturers Association of Canada
(AWMAC) BC Awards of Excellence for
their work at GTC;
• GM Peggy Howard is a finalist for
Surrey Board of Trade Business Person
of the Year.
Village at Park Royal TURNS 10!
The Village at Park Royal celebrated its
10 year anniversary this year. Festivities
ran throughout the summer and
culminated in a free concert for the
community in September.
Live entertainment, complimentary
pedi-cab rides around the property, and
retailer partnerships were celebrated
through the creation of themed menu
items. All lead up to the event day which
featured a pop-up class by YYoga, family activities, cake cutting ceremony,
giveaways and music by the Star
Captains and Dear Rouge.
Sales increased in July and August by
3.59 per cent and 3.26 per cent respectively. Social media delivered a multiple channel reach of over 236,000.
Facebook followers increased 13 per
cent, and the applause rate increased
from 1.98 to 17.74 while Instagram
followers increased 43 per cent and
applause from 10.22 to 18.36.
The Snap & Share contest garnered 374
entries with the hashtag #10YearsFun –
receiving more than 4,500 likes.

Jack in the City
The LEGO Literacy Building Challenge
was held Oct. 18 -19 at Central City.
LEGO Certified Pro Robin Sather
constructed the great Jack-O-Lantern and
Surrey libraries benefited from the event.
Market hosts
Conference
The first annual Canadian Markets
Conference took place Oct. 26 to 28 at three
locations: Granville Island Public Market,
Lonsdale Quay Market, and River Market.
Delegates from across Canada attended
including Calgary, Montreal, Winnipeg,
Hamilton, Victoria and Gibsons.
Hillside 4 the Pets
After the construction dust settled, Hillside
Shopping Centre ended up with a lot of
old furniture to dispose of. The public was
invited to create their own piece of art,
repurposing the furniture, for a campaign that
raised $3,600 for Paws for a Cause. Before/
after photos were posted on Facebook.
Yoga was part of the event that capped off a 10th
anniversary celebration at The Village at Park Royal.
BCLC wins ICSC Silver for Lotto!
Interactive features enhance the
new Lotto! Signature Store.
The BCLC has already earned accolades for its new 1,054 sq. ft. flagship
Lotto! Signature Store, opened on the
upper level (near Target) of Metropolis
at Metrotown.
The BCLC was honoured to win Silver
in the category of Retail Design, at
this year's ICSC Canadian Shopping
Centre Award ceremony in Toronto.
