Hybrid Clubs vs. Irons
We often get asked about the advantages of using Hybrid clubs and how the lofts of hybrid clubs
compare to irons.
18 degree = 2 iron;
21 degree = 3 iron;
30 degree = 5 to 6 iron;
25 degree = 4 iron;
35 degree = 7 to 8 iron
Hybrids, when compared to long irons are highly recommended for amateur golfer because of the
following reasons:
1) Send the ball flying high - studies have shown a hybrid can often get you 8 more yards than a
typical iron.
2) The club design is superior - with the hybrid club design, the center of gravity is moved lower
and further back from the clubface. The result? You get more trajectory and ball loft.
3) More forgiving - who DOESN'T need a club that performs well even if the sweet spot isn't hit.
4) Improved shot possibilities - with a hybrid you have more options out of bad lies, tight spots and
trouble situations.
The Pro’s Message
Well, after a cold and wet winter, Spring has finally arrived. April is the start of several busy months
at the club. The 29th Annual Hospice of Scotland County Golf Tournament is scheduled for April
14th and 15th. Spots are still available for Tuesday and Wednesday, you may sign up a team of four
or as an individual. This event has raised over 3.5 million dollars for Hospice in our community.
The tournament offers competitive golf, a silent auction like no other, a cocktail party and most of
all, lots of “fun”. I encourage you to support the cause and join us for this classic SMCC event.
The 1st Annual John B. Searcy Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, April 18th.
John Searcy was a magistrate in Richmond County and was well know for giving to others and making himself available to those in need of assistance. He passed away unexpectedly in October,
2014. The tournament will benefit a scholarship fund at Richmond Community College in his
memory. For more information and registration forms, please contact the golf shop.
The Tommy Britt Memorial Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, May 2nd with a 12:00 shot-gun
start. As many of you know, Tommy was a supportive member of Scotch Meadows, a state winning
baseball coach, Scotland High Athletic Director, family man, and a friend to anyone that knew him.
Tommy touched so many lives in Scotland County and thus is being honored with a golf tournament.
Proceeds will benefit the newly formed Tommy Britt Memorial Scholarship Fund at Scotland High
School. The format is a unique 3-person Captain’s Choice with the field limited to 36 teams. We
feel this event will fill quickly. If interested in putting in a team or a sponsorship, please contact the
golf shop or Jamie Sutherland as soon as possible.
As we approach our golfing season, I hope you will consider being a part of our club events such as
the above mentioned tournaments and our club tournaments like the upcoming President’s Cup.
This is truly what separates us from other clubs in our area.
Thank you and have a great spring!
