OHIO AMISH COUNTRY - - - May 4 - 8, 2015
May 4 (Mon) Today we embark on a journey to a place in Ohio where people live a much simpler time - - no
traffic jams, limited technology and family always comes first. Departure from Thurmont will be 7:00 AM
and Frederick 7:50 AM with breakfast stop at Breezewood and a lunch break enroute. Check into the
hotel and at 4:45 we head to the Warther Garvings for a tour and dinner. After dinner Mark Warther will
give a special presentation about the Colorado Train Tour. (D)
May 5 (Tue) Breakfast at the hotel and then we'll meet our tour guide, Carol Glessner, at the hotel who will
enthrall us with history, highlights and hospitality galore. Then it’s on to The Farm where we'll probably
see lots of young animals as we hand feed them on our ride from the hose drawn wagon. Then we drive
thru the beautiful Dutch Valley as we head to the restaurant for lunch with time to shop and enjoy the
beautiful spring flowers. Then at 1:30 it's off on the back country road touring into Charm, Ohio. Here
men can visit the Keim Lumber Bldg and the wormen will visit Miller Dry Goods. From here it * is a visit to
Walnut Creek Cheese, then back to the hotel to relax before going to dinner at Chalet in the Valley for a
Swiss Buffet Dinner. Return to the hotel for the night. (B, D)
May 6 (Wed) After breakfast we head to Millersburg for Make and Takes. Lunch will be in Millersburg and then
we depart for Yoder's Amish Farm and Buggy Ride. The drivers are all Amish church and enjoy talking
with visitors. We'll tour an1800s style home like the Amish first lived in when they came to America.
Return to the hotel to relax before departing for dinner and then we depart for the Amish Country
Theatre. WEAR your best 60's attire! A great show in store. (8, D)
May 7 (Thu) Breakfast and then off again with Carol to the Homestead Furniture where you will see craftsmen
create beautiful wooden furniture - - from Country to Classic to Shaker styles. From here it's off to
Lehman's and today is auction day and flea market day. Visit the newly expanded Lehman's General
Store where you can browse and shop their Amish shop. The Buggy Barn Cinema features short
presentations on organic gardening, oil lamp restoration and other topics. Lunch will be in Dalton, Ohio,
then we watch a basket making demo by one of the strictest groups of Amish. Return to hotel to relax
before heading to an Amish home for a home cooked meal after which you will stuff your own whoopee
pies (with cream) to take home. Each person will receive four whoopee pies.
May 8 (Fri) Breakfast at usual time, but be sure your luggage is outside your door for pickup no later than 8:00
AM. Carol will be there to greet us as we take a winding drive thru lush green pastures of the Doughty
Valley. These are the pastures that produce the sweet, fresh milk that gives the Original Baby Swiss
Cheese it's unique creamy flavor. The Amish farmers have been bringing their milk to the Guggisberg
Gheese Factory for over 60 years! From here we head to the Hershberger Truck Patch and Amish
Bakery will you get the aroma of the best fresh baked pastries in the county. Then it's time to say
Goodbye to our special friend and guide, Carol Glessner. Don't forget a gratuity. For those visiting here
for the first time, I sure hope that you have enjoyed this trip and everything that was included. lt may take
you some time to lose the weight gained. ETR 7:00 PM Price: $756 PP DBL $959 Sgl $689 PP Trpl $125

This is a tour that everybody enjoys. lf there is a complaint, it is because of too much food. For those
who love cheese, and you want to bring some home, usually a cooler is not necessary, but if you want,
you may bring a cooler, but please put a name tag on the handle. There will be items of candy,
cookies, pies also that the cooler would be good for packing. Dress for this tour is casual, so a huge
suitcase is not necessary.
Mark Warther will be home the first week of May and so I have arranged for him to be at the dinner on
Monday evening to do the presentation on the Colorado Train Tour. The owner of Ohio Travel
Treasures has planned this tour and even thou I have been out there several times, she has included
sights that I haven't seen. So I hope you will give serious thought to going to Ohio and after that I hope
you will want to go to Colorado. We still have a lot of beautiful areas in our country, and I have seen parts of
Colorado, but Mark has selected some beautiful sites and some grand locations where we will be spending the
nights. So at least try to come on the Ohio tour. For the Ohio tour there is no need for dressy clothing, but do
wear comfortable walking shoes. Remember that the Amish do not like to have their pictures taken.
