Installation Guide (a) (b) To Fit Rails or Poles To Hang Curtains (a) To Fit Rails or Poles This Job should be carried out by a competent handyman or tradesman If rails or poles were to fall they could cause injury and inconvenience. Rails or Poles Fixed to Walls It is best to use an SDS hammer drill to drill holes. Dust can be collected by holding a vacuum hose close when drilling. Solid Walls If you are fixing to solid walls use rail plugs and screws to fix brackets to wall. Dry Lined Walls If you are fixing to dry lined walls try to locate timber batons and fix to them. If you cannot find timber batons fix through to solid walls using long screws. Be careful not to over tighten and burst the plasterboard. There are special toggle type fittings which can be used for plasterboard, but at the end of the day you are relying on the strength of the plasterboard to hold up the curtains. It is best not to rely on these fittings. Top Fix Rails or Poles If you are fixing to ceilings it is very important that you fix to secure groundings. Rawl plugs are fine if you are screwing into concrete or steel or you can screw directly into timber. But sometimes you can have plasterboard ceiling with very little support structure. Then it is very important that you install plywood groundings securely and screw directly into these groundings. (b) To Hang Curtains (Pencil Pleat) on rails Get a good strong stable pair of steps. Fit curtain rail in position. Fit eye bolts into the wall, one at each end of the rail. Count the number of hooks in each curtain (say 20) Put (20 + 20 + 4 Spare) = 44 Gliders on your rails. Measure the length of each rail or measure to the mid point if you have a single rail. Pull cords in curtain tape so that curtain is approx. 6” longer than rail to allow for returns Roll up excess cord and tuck behind tape at outside edge of each curtain. O LH Rail RH Rail O - Small eye bolt fixed in wall - Return LH Curtain RH Curtain Length = RH Rail Length + 6” Make sure the pleats in the heading tape are evenly spaced and vertical. Place a good safe pair of steps in position. Take the weight of the curtain over your shoulder. Hook the curtain onto the gliders. Connect the last curtain hook to the small eye bolt in the wall to keep the return of the curtain in position. Take steps away. Pull bottom of the curtain down and train the folds in position. Tie the curtain lightly with tapes provided so that the folds are held in position. Leave tied for a few days if possible. If using Poles For gliders read rings but you do not use any spare rings i.e. number of rings = number of hooks less 1. (last hook connects to small eye bolt) How to Hang Curtains (Pinch Pleat ) on rails The curtains will have been made to a specified length. We will tell you the length of the rail you must use. Lift pole over brackets and fix in position so that the last eyelet is beyond the bracket as shown. Train folds as explained under pencil pleat section. Example Only Hole 2 Hole 1 ½“ ½“ If eye of the ring is to be 91” from carpet Bracket Hole 1 will be 90½“ from carpet Bracket Hole 2 will be 91½“ from carpet It is best to fix a bracket to a piece of wood and the put the pole and ring in position. Measure the position of the holes in the bracket relative to the position of the eye.
