Volunteer Opportunities: One Day a Week Volunteer Resources Volunteer Fest Colorado volunteers make a positive difference in communities all around the State. In 2011, more than 1.3 million people in Colorado volunteered more than 156.6 million hours of service contributing more than $3.3 billion in value to communities and organizations around the state. Not only did organizations benefit from this contribution, many volunteers gained valuable work experience leading to employment. Contacts Serve Colorado, the Governor’s Commission on Community Service, strives to build a culture of citizenship, service and responsibility in Colorado. Serve Colorado promotes volunteerism and service as a means to strengthen communities through days of service, special initiatives, and community partnerships. They address community needs by administering AmeriCorps*State funding that allows AmeriCorps members to serve in nonprofit organizations and government agencies throughout Colorado. Serve Colorado also encourages residents to take part in organized days of service throughout the year, including Colorado Cares Day.
