Preliminary Thoughts “First think than act” • What is the reason for the presentation? – External presentation: Any benefit for Qimonda? • Who is my audience and my target group? – What is the knowledge of your target group? – • Are they familiar with your topic or is it a new topic? What is my story? – How I want to tell it (What is the story behind?) – Create a first storyboard – Think about the “central theme” of your presentation • When is my presentation date? – Plan enough preparation time for your presentation • How much time do I have for my presentation? – 70% of the “agreed time” – everything should be done (leave time for questions at the end) – Plan 3-5 minutes for one slide (20 minutes presentation time = max. 6 slides!) Think about your Content • Content of slides is more important than design! • Think about a logical structure – Create an agenda – Start and end with a summary • What are your key messages? – Clear statement on top of each page • Generate slides (Instead of pack slides together from existing presentations) • Customize content to each audience – generate an audience “oriented” presentation • Start with an attention-getter (e.g. quote, interesting statistic etc.) • Have a proofread with someone who is not familiar with your topic KISS = Keep it short and simple Qimonda · Thomas Wimschneider, IT CP; How to do PPT · April 2007 · Page 5 For internal use only · Copyright © Qimonda AG 2006 · All rights reserved. Design your Presentation • Use the Qimonda PowerPoint template • Fill out header and footer for your presentation • Don’t change logo – don’t create your own logo • Stick to one font style throughout your presentation • Use bullet points • Use meaningful graphics • Choose a simple animation and slide transition • Make sure, that you only use copyright free pictures • Place figures always on the right Qimonda · Thomas Wimschneider, IT CP; How to do PPT · April 2007 · Page 6 For internal use only · Copyright © Qimonda AG 2006 · All rights reserved. Present your Presentation • Are you familiar with your topic? – Know subject well enough for a presentation without slides • Do you have enough background knowledge? • Think about the attitude against your audience – Think about gesture and facial expression – Speak to your audience and not to the wall and/or laptop – Keep eye contact with your audience • Keep your timeline! • You are the “Entertainer”! -> Inform, convince and entertain your audience After your presentation: • Take advantage to collect feedback about your presentation Qimonda · Thomas Wimschneider, IT CP; How to do PPT · April 2007 · Page 7 For internal use only · Copyright © Qimonda AG 2006 · All rights reserved. Presentation Examples Table of Content • Objective of the Topic • Objective of the Meeting • Current Situation • Achievements / Issues / … • Project plan (Current, Changes, …) • Financials (Plan, YTD, FC, …) • Project-team /-organization • Delivered action items from last protocol • Next steps / open items from last protocol •… Qimonda · Thomas Wimschneider, IT CP; How to do PPT · April 2007 · Page 8 For internal use only · Copyright © Qimonda AG 2006 · All rights reserved. The deadly sins of PowerPoint presentations 1. Gimmick overloaded presentation • Focus on your presentation and on your content, not on gimmicks 2. Standard Clipart • Don’t use standard cliparts (like e.g. screen beans) • Use graphics to simplify and/or to enforce your content 3. Text heavy slides • The audience will not be able to focus on your story line and your key messages 4. Reading • Don’t read the foils sentence by sentence, this will bore your audiene to death 5. Faith in Technology • Test your presentation equipment before – Always! • Have backup of your presenation on CD-ROM or memory stick Qimonda · Thomas Wimschneider, IT CP; How to do PPT · April 2007 · Page 11 For internal use only · Copyright © Qimonda AG 2006 · All rights reserved.
