But, I am truly inspired by their generosity! Once again, 100% of our staff has opened their hearts and donated to the Lake County United Way Campaign. In 2013, the Lake County Cares Campaign raised $78,550 to help those in need. The goal for 2014 is $80,000. I am in awe of the generosity of our staff and the role we play in the Lake County Cares Campaign. As the saying goes, "It takes a Village" and I'm so proud of the good deeds we do for this Village! Members of the Recorder of Deeds Office and the County Administrator's Office participated in a "tie-breaking" game of "bean bags" to raise funds and awareness for the Lake County Cares Campaign. 41st Annual LCCS Senior Expo - August 6th Join Mary Ellen Vanderventer and the Recorder of Deeds Office, along with over 50 other exhibitors on August 6th from 8:00 AM until 1:30 PM for the 41st Annual Lake County Council for Seniors (LCCS) Senior Expo. Transfer on Death Instrument A "Transfer on Death Instrument" is a document recorded BEFORE the death of the current owner but the actual transfer of property does not take place until after the death of the owner. This recording CAN be revoked prior by the current owner by recording the appropriate document. Since no actual transfer is taking place at the time of the recording of this instrument, no transfer tax is due at the time of this recording. A "Notice of Death Affidavit and Acceptance of Transfer on Death Instrument" must be recorded by the beneficiary after the death of the owner to make the Transfer on Death Instrument effective. The agreement made between the original owner and the beneficiary will determine whether or not a PTAX-203 is required to be filed at the time of this recording. If any consideration is to change hands and there are no exemptions pertaining to the transfer, then a PTAX-203 is required. This new legislation also points out that consideration is not required; therefore, if there is no consideration then no PTAX-203 is required to be filed.
