Test Instructions How to Use BFP Pregnancy Test TM 1. Open the sealed pouch, remove the BFP test stick, and remove the protective cap. Perform the test immediately after opening the pouch. PREGNANCY TEST FOR TRYING-TO-CONCEIVE WOMEN This test kit contains everything you need to simply and reliably find out whether you are pregnant or not. When you’re pregnant, your body makes a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), which can be detected in urine. The BFP (Big Fat Positive) Pregnancy Test detects the presence of hCG in urine. A positive result indicates that the urine contains hCG and you can assume you are pregnant. A negative result indicates that no hCG was detected in the urine and you can assume you are not pregnant. STORAGE: Store at 36-86°F (2-30°C) in the sealed pouch, away from direct sunlight. Do not use after the expiration date stamped on the package. BEFORE YOU BEGIN: Read all the information in this pamphlet before performing the test. First, make sure you are familiar with the test kit contents shown below. CONTENTS: 3 Individually sealed test devices 1 instructions for use 2. Turn the test stick so that the reading window is facing away from you, with the absorbent tip down, and hold the absorbent tip in your urine stream for 5-10 seconds. Keep the absorbent tip pointing down as you urinate on the tip and for 2-3 seconds afterwards, so that any excess urine can drip off of the absorbent tip. We recommend that you use a watch or clock to time 10 seconds. 3. Keeping the absorbent tip pointing down, replace the protective cap and then lay the stick on a flat surface with the reading window facing up. 4. Read the result after 1 minute, but within 3 minutes. While you wait, you will see a pink color moving up the reading window. A pinkish-purple line will form in the Control (round) Window to tell you the test is working correctly. ALTERNATE PROCEDURE 1. Collect urine into a clean cup. Open the pouch and remove the test as above. Dip at least two-thirds of the absorbent tip of the stick into the urine, for at least 20 seconds. Keep the absorbent tip pointing down for 2-3 seconds afterwards, so that any excess urine can drip off of the absorbent tip. We recommend you use a watch or clock to time 20 seconds. 2. Keeping the absorbent tip pointing down, replace the protective cap and then lay the stick on a flat surface with the reading window facing up. Contoured Thumb Grip Test Result Window 3. Read the result after 1 minute, but within 3 minutes. How To Read The Result Protective Cap Control Window Sealed Splash Guard POSITIVE: Two lines, one pinkish-purple line in each of the reading windows, means you are probably pregnant. Even if one line is very light, you can assume you are pregnant. Read positive results at one minute. NEGATIVE: One line in the Control window and no pinkishpurple line in the Test window means you are probably not pregnant. Negative results take at least 3 minutes to confirm. Absorbent Tip Two Lines POSITIVE One Line NEGATIVE INVALID: If there is no line in Control Window the test did not work properly and should be repeated with a new BFP Pregnancy Test. INVALID How To Interpret Your Results A positive test result means your urine contains hCG, a hormone your body makes during pregnancy. You can assume you are pregnant, and should consult your doctor immediately. A negative result means that hCG has not been detected and you probably are not pregnant or hCG is below the detectable level. You may want to repeat the BFP test if a week passes and you still have not started menstruating. If the result from this later test is still negative, you are probably not pregnant, but you should see your physician because there could be health-related reasons why you are not menstruating. Test Limitations The BFP Pregnancy Test is not reusable. The test instructions must be followed precisely. Medications containing the pregnancy hormone hCG may affect the test; therefore, do not use this test while you are taking such medications. Most pain relievers, antibiotics and other common drugs were found not to affect the test results. The BFP Pregnancy Test is highly accurate in detecting pregnancy. In rare instances, however, false results (positive when no pregnancy exists or negative when pregnancy is present) may be observed. You should check with your doctor if you get inconsistent results. Certain health conditions such as an ectopic pregnancy or a cyst in the ovary can cause false results. Some Common Questions & Answers Q: When can I do the test? A: As early as the first day you miss a period. If you have an irregular menstrual cycle, you should use the longest cycle as reference. If the test is negative and your period does not begin within a week, you may have miscalculated your cycle and should use a new BFP test. First morning urine contains the highest levels of hCG, but the BFP test is sensitive enough to detect hCG in your urine any time of day. Q: May I read the test results after 3 minutes? A: DO NOT read the test result after 3 minutes. The result you see after 3 minutes may be inaccurate. Q: There are two lines, but one of the lines is very light. Is the test working properly? A: Yes. As long as both lines appear within the reading time, the result is positive. Both lines need not be the same shade or intensity. One line may be darker or lighter than the other. Q: My test result is negative, but I feel like I am pregnant. Is the test working correctly? A: You may have tested too early to detect hCG. You can test again in 5 days with a new BFP test kit or consult your doctor. Q: I am not sure of my test result. What should I do? A: If there is only a pinkish tint in the Control (round) window, but no distinct pinkish-purple line within 3 minutes, the test is invalid and should be repeated. Applying too little or too much urine can cause an invalid result. If you are still unsure of your test result, you should repeat the BFP test in a week with a new test kit. Q: Can alcohol or medications affect the test? A: Drinking alcohol will not affect the test (but it is not healthy for your baby if you become pregnant). Medications containing hCG can affect the test result. Other hormone medications, pain relievers, antibiotics, or the contraceptive pill should not affect the test. Q: How accurate is the test? A: The accuracy of BFP was demonstrated in a laboratory study in which technicians obtained the correct expected result on a total of 247 (99+%) of 247 blind clinical samples.
