therapy to those with Borderline Personality
Disorder
(One-day Workshop)

Description and Learning Objectives: Many of the skills and frameworks utilised by
counselling psychologists have a place in treating individuals with the diagnosis of borderline
personality disorder. The overarching aim of this workshop is to assist counselling
psychologists to improve their clinical confidence and capacity to provide therapeutic
treatment to this group of individuals. Specifically the workshop will explore current
understanding of BPD, current treatment approaches, principles of treatment, risk issues, and
therapist needs. The workshop will provide active CPD hours for counselling psychologists,
including APS membership and AHPRA registration.
Your presenters:
Dr Katie Wyman is a counselling psychologist who has been working in the field of
public mental health and personality disorder for the last 12 years. Currently Katie is a senior
psychologist in a specialist personality disorder service in Victoria where she provides group
and individual treatment to clients with BPD and other personality disorders, clinical
assessment, and training to other mental health clinicians. Katie has a strong interest in
understanding and researching the therapeutic alliance, in particular the personal attributes
of therapists and their effect on alliance and other therapy processes.
Janina Tomasoni is a counselling psychologist who has worked across a number of
specialist mental health and disability services for the last twenty years. She is currently in
the role of senior psychologist in a specialist personality disorder service for Victoria where
she provides individual treatment, secondary consultation to forensic & mental health
services, psychiatric disability rehabilitations services and disability services, and training.
Janina also has her own private practice providing short and long therapy and has conducted
a number of workshops for clinicians working across a variety of settings. She has also
presented at both local and international conferences regarding personality disorder.
Both Katie and Janina utilise a variety of therapeutic frameworks in delivering group
and individual treatment to clients with BPD and other personality disorders.
