Start saving with MetroSaver
The MetroSaver is the fast and convenient way to get
around Tyne and Wear for less. By choosing to travel
with a one week, four week or annual ticket you could
save yourself hundreds of pounds to spend on what
you really want.
A MetroSaver allows unlimited Metro travel in your
chosen zone(s) any time of the day or evening, any day
of the week. You can use it for commuting to work, a
trip to the shops or a ride into town for a night out.
How to buy a MetroSaver
First you’ll need to apply for your FREE Pop card at
nexus.org.uk/pop or at any Nexus TravelShop. This is
what your MetroSaver will be loaded on to. You’ll need
to provide a photo, either by uploading one online or by
bringing a passport-sized photo along with you.
Your Pop card will take about five working days to
arrive by post. When you receive it you can buy a one
week, four week or annual MetroSaver, which will be
loaded on to your Pop card:

How to use your Pop card
Terms and Conditions of the
Replacement Scheme
1. The Replacement Scheme is only available to
annual MetroSaver holders. Any loss or theft must
be reported to the police within 48 hours and an
incident number obtained.
2. The claim must be submitted on a claim form,
available from Nexus TravelShops.
3. The original MetroSaver/Pop card must be returned
if subsequently found.
4. Only one replacement annual MetroSaver per year
will be issued under the Replacement Scheme.
5. While waiting for your replacement MetroSaver,
you must purchase a ticket for journeys on Metro.
If you travel without a valid ticket you may be
issued with a £20 Penalty Fare Notice and be liable
for prosecution.
As a smartcard holder you are required to validate
your smartcard at the start and at the end of each
journey.
An all zones MetroSaver is also valid on the Shields
Ferry and local rail services between Newcastle and
Sunderland. A MetroSaver which includes zone A can
also be used on QuayLink buses.

Validating your smartcard is easy, simply touch in and
out of the system using the station gates or validators.

What if I lose my Pop
card/annual MetroSaver?
If you lose your Pop card go to nexus.org.uk/pop to
find out how to replace it. Information about replacing
your season ticket (for which a fee may be payable) is

12. Refunds are available for four week and annual
MetroSavers for unused future travel. Refunds will be
calculated on the basis of the number of full travel
days which are unused from the date the pass is
received by Nexus – at a TravelShop or by the
Customer Service Department. An administration fee
is payable in all cases.

11. In the event that you are issued with a replacement
MetroSaver, as per the Replacement Scheme overleaf,
in no circumstances will this be refundable.

10. Lost and stolen MetroSaver tickets are non-refundable,
except for annual tickets which are covered by the
Replacement Scheme (see overleaf).

9. Travelling with a MetroSaver ticket, whether or not on
a Pop card, is subject to the Tyne and Wear Passenger
Transport Act 1979; the bye-laws which relate to
Metro and bus premises; the Conditions of Carriage
and Passenger Regulations applying to the Tyne and
Wear Metro and the Pop Card Terms and Conditions
(as applicable).

8. No person shall (i) alter, deface or mutilate a
MetroSaver ticket or (ii) use or attempt to use a
MetroSaver ticket that has been in any respect
materially altered, defaced or mutilated.

7. A one week MetroSaver ticket is valid for seven days;
a four week MetroSaver ticket is valid for 28 days and
an annual MetroSaver ticket is valid for one calendar
year. A ticket will not be valid for use outside the
period purchased.

6. MetroSaver tickets can only be used within the
zones purchased.

only be used by the person identified on the Pop card.
