THANK YOU
A huge amount of hard work has gone into the
organisation of this event, and we are very grateful
to everyone – all our sponsors, staff, you our
supporters and of course the IPSF Committee and
Judges for such a combined effort once again.
A special thank you goes to Deb Roach for
returning to perform for a 3rd year. A huge
thank you must also go to Florenza Pizanis and
the technical committee for their perseverance
and dedication developing the Code of Points.
We would also like to show our gratitude to

ABOUT THE IPSF
Welcome to the International Pole Sports
Federation, a not for profit organisation
dedicated to positively promoting pole
as an athletic sport.
Voluntarily run by members of the Pole Sports industry from
across the globe and created to foster the development of
Pole Sports throughout the World, the IPSF supports individuals
and national federations to unify the Pole Sports industry.
Through setting in place a format that will be accepted by
international sport governing bodies, the IPSF’s goal is for the
Olympic committee to recognise Pole Sports as an official
sport and to one day be part of the Olympic Games.
PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD
This year our People’s Choice Award will go to one of the
incredible WPSC athletes. We hope you enjoy watching their
powerful routines and would like you to vote for the athlete
you have enjoyed watching the most. Make sure you watch
them all! Please go to the IPSF stand and fill in the voting form;
the winner will be announced at the award ceremony on
Sunday. (Previous winners are not eligible.)

EV
O
LUTION
OF
THE IPSF
The IPSF was founded in 2009 by
Tim Trautman with a view to bring
consistency and standardisation
to pole.
Tim swiftly recruited pole industry experts to form
a committee and became the first President. KT
Coates, a leading pole pioneer worldwide and
campaigner for pole sports to be in the Olympics
was voted in as Vice-President. In July 2012 the
first IPSF World Pole Sports Championships were
held in London. Over 80 athletes applied and the
event was held over two days. It was a resounding
success with athletes and spectators alike. Tim
then resigned as President and the IPSF was under
the helm of KT Coates and Kate Whitley. Kate was
in the original committee as Ethics Chair moving to
European Vice-President by the WPSC12.
At the February 2013 AGM, a steering committee
was formed to take stock and plan what
needed doing to develop and grow the IPSF in
accordance with the SportAccord and Olympic
Committee requirements for an international
sporting federation. KT was voted in as President
and Kate as Vice-President. The pair have
made formidable allies in tackling discrimination,
inequality and negative perceptions about
pole sports both within and outside the pole
community.
By the time of the 2nd WPSC in 2013, a Code of
Points had started to be developed and was
introduced to athletes in the form of compulsory
moves. The technical team headed by Florenza
Pizanis developed a fair way of scoring and the
judging system used that year included over 20
Judges. WPSC13 also pioneered the first World
Championships for athletes of all ages. To be
classified as a sport there needs to be accessibility
for all, it needs to be fun and involve competition.
This was the first time athletes with an age range
from 10 yrs to 63 yrs had been eligible to compete
on the same platform; over 100 applied.

Pole Move Box and Pole X Gym
This year has been phenomenal. National
Federations hosting National Championships
have joined as members and used the updated
Code of Points with the IPSF scoring and judging
system. Judges training courses have taken place
worldwide and the feedback from athletes has
been very positive; they appreciate how the
sport can now be undertaken in a way which
promotes fairness and a genuine comparison
of athletic skills on the pole. Importantly for the
WPSC14 has been the inclusion of the AntiDoping Education Programme which will include
testing for the first time at a pole competition in
accordance to the WADA Code. WPSC2014 has
had over 120 athlete’s applications and one of
the key points of competing is to represent your
country and be proud of your team mates. Like
many international sports that operate on a
non-profit basis, winners of IPSF competitions do
not win prizes. They compete for the honour of
winning a Bronze, Silver or hopefully Gold medal
for themselves and their country. Next year will see
the introduction of the world ranking system.
In October the steering committee changes to
a full committee, the Code of Points will continue
to be updated, Judges training will be taking
place on most continents and the Anti-Doping
Education Programme will start to be introduced
into National Championships. Pole Sports Clubs will
be introduced with the development of Coaches
and Athletes training, and membership around
the world will continue to grow. Everything the
IPSF does is done by volunteers who give up
their time and energy to keep the Federation
running. Without the thousands of hours given
by committee members and event volunteers,
the IPSF and the WPSC would cease to exist.

international sporting federation, contact

ANTIDOPING
Since April last year the IPSF adopted the WADA code and began an
education programme for National Federations, athletes, coaches and
competition holders to enable Pole Sports to be a drug free environment.

As an athlete, coach
or competition
organizer it ensures
that no unfair
advantage is given to
any one competitor
above all others.
WHO ARE WADA?
WADA (World Anti Doping Agency) was formed
in 1999 in Switzerland to cease an uneven
approach to penalties for athletes found guilty
of doping. They have produced a Code to act
as a framework for all anti-doping policies.
WHAT EFFECT DOES THIS
HAVE ON POLE?
From 1st August 2013, the IPSF undertook a full
anti-doping programme for all athletes competing
in national and international competitions
accredited by the IPSF. Testing can occur at any
time, not just over the time-frame of a competition.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO YOU?
As an athlete, coach or competition organizer it
ensures that no unfair advantage is given to any
one competitor above all others. As a spectator
you can watch free of any doubt that the abilities
of the athletes have not been enhanced in
anyway through drugs.
WHEN WILL ANTI-DOPING
TESTING TAKE PLACE?
WHAT RIGHTS DO THE
ATHLETES HAVE?
All athletes have the right to confidentiality at
all times An important aspect of anti-doping is
athletes’ rights and all athletes have the right to an
independent hearing. The athlete then has a right
of appeal and may chose to do so within the time
frames allowed.
It already has! In-competition testing began
in this very WPSC!
After this point, both UK Anti-Doping and athletes
have the right to a further appeal to the Court of
Arbitration for Sport. Athletes will also be entitled to
receive an anti-doping education.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN AN ATHLETE
IS TESTED?
WHAT HAPPENS IF AN ATHLETE
FAILS THE DRUG TEST?
• The athlete needs to report immediately
for testing
• The athlete will be chaperoned at all times.
• Athletes will be directly observed whilst giving
a sample
• The sample must be a minimum of 90mmls
or additional samples may be required.
• The sample’s concentration will be tested
to make sure it is suitable for analysis.
• The athlete will complete the Doping Control
Form (DCF) and sign to verify it is their sample
• The athlete must also record anything they
have taken in the last 7 days including
medications and supplements.
Athletes failing a drug test receive a ban from
their sport for a period of time. This can be a few
months to life depending on the severity of the rule
violation and evidence put forward.
WHAT DOES A BAN FROM SPORT
ACTUALLY MEAN?
Not only do athletes face a ban from their sport
for a period of time they also face many wider
consequences. They are not allowed to compete
in competitions, train in certain environments,
receive any sports related funding. Most
importantly, ALL previous medals, titles and records
will be removed.
Most athletes have a deep passion for their sport
and dedicate a significant amount of time to it.
Being stripped of all of the above is so detrimental
to an athletes life we hope knowing this should be
a strong enough deterrent.

IPSF NATIONAL IPSF NATIONAL
FEDERATIONS COMPETITIONS
As the international
governing body of pole
sports, the IPSF has to
adhere to criteria set by
the International Olympic
Committee as to what
constitutes a sport. We must
also keep the ethos of what
is a sport which includes
fair play, competition and
accessibility. The sport must
also be undertaken by
people who just want to do it for fun; we believe
this is happening worldwide with huge numbers of
pole sports athletes growing daily.
Each year we have been
improving the standard of
IPSF competitions and the
criteria for entry to the World
Pole Sports Championships.
In year one athletes placing
1st, 2nd or 3rd in their
competitions were invited
to take part in the WPSC. In
year two only the top three
athletes of respected, well
organised competitions
could enter the WPSC and extra categories
were included to offer athletes of all ages the
opportunity to compete in a safe environment.
Our IPSF National Federation members are
increasing each month and are working towards
getting recognition and accreditation for pole
sports from the governments and sporting
agencies in their countries. This takes time and
the criterion is very strict:
The new categories included youth and masters
enabling athletes from 10 years to 63 years to
participate. In year three we began implementing
the IPSF only recognised competitions including
national and open championships. National
Championships are held for citizens of the country
the competition is held in. Open Championships
are held for athletes who do not have a National
Championships in their own country.
•IPSF National Federations have to run as a nonprofit organisation.
• They have to build a solid membership base.
• They have to have an IPSF National
Championships annually.
• An anti-doping education programme is
mandatory.
• They have to adhere to IPSF strict high
standards.
• They have to promote the positivity of pole
sports and continue to support the IPSF plans
for SportAccord and IOC accreditation.
• They also have to uphold the ethos and values
of pole sports being a sport.
• Full IPSF membership for National Federations
takes 3 years.
Our current National Federations:
We also recognised ten national competitions
that used the full IPSF criteria. This consisted of the
following:
• Using IPSF Rules and Regulations.
• Using IPSF scoring system.
• Using IPSF trained judges
• Using the IPSF code of ethics
These competitions were recognised by the IPSF
and had the top three athletes in each elite
category eligible to represent their country
at the WPSC.
•Argentina
• Czech Republic
•Italy
•Japan
•Korea
•Mexico
•Sweden
•Switzerland
•UK
From 2015 the IPSF will only be accepting
competitions that use full IPSF criteria.
If you are part of a National Pole Sports Federation
in your country and would like more information
about becoming an IPSF Federation member,
come along to a meeting on Monday 21st July
at York Hall – 11am.
This magazine was sponsored by
Pole Move Box and Pole X Gym
Competitions and national federations could
apply for accreditation for their athletes and the
top two athletes in each elite category were given
a place at the WPSC.
This will enable us to introduce the world’s
first athlete’s pole ranking system based on the
IPSF scoring system which shows a true and fair
comparison between competing athletes.
For more information about the Code of Points
and competing, come to the Athletes and
Coaches meeting in York Hall on Monday 21st
at 12pm.

POLETRITION
Alex Taylor - Poletrition co-director & holistic nutrition & lifestyle coach
2014
WHAT IS NUTRITION?
Nutrition is defined as nourishment to the body
obtained by food for growth and overall health.
WHY IS NUTRITION IMPORTANT?
Your level of nutrition whether good or bad,
ultimately determines your general health; well
being times a good level of nutrition equals a
healthy body. A bad level of nutrition equals an
unhealthy body, and for EVERYBODY the degree
of health issues will be different. At Poletrition we
focus on ‘food for life’; what you put into your
body now WILL affect your body in the future!
So that soup diet or fasting diet or maybe even
the ‘2 shakes and a healthy meal’ diet may come
back to haunt you!!!
WHY IS NUTRITION IMPORTANT
FOR POLING?
As a pole athlete you require amongst other things
high energy and strength, both of which are not
just determined by how often and hard you train,
but what you put into your body. Ever heard the
phrases ‘you are only as good as what you put
into your body’ or ‘abs are made in the kitchen’.
A lean body will also help with not only the ability
to hold yourself on the pole but look good too.

OUR TOP 10 NUTRITION AND
LIFESTYLE TIPS TO POWER UP
YOUR POLE...
Hit a pole plateau? Not keen on getting your
shorts on? Can’t function without gallons of coffee
and you run out of energy every afternoon? Don’t
panic... A few simple tips and you will be pole lean
and nailing those new moves before you know it.
1
80:20 Choose wisely on an 80:20 ratio:
80% of the time make positive choices
and balance your food for your body
so that 20% of the time you can have a
little of what you fancy without causing
major disruption to your body. The right
combination of carbohydrates, protein and
fat eaten at the right time and at regular
intervals will help keep energy levels high
and over time reduce body fat.
2
Increase Protein: Eating healthy lean
proteins will maintain your blood-sugar
levels preventing energy ‘highs’ and ‘lows’.
Aim for each feeding throughout the day
to be made up of half protein and half
carb with your ‘carb content’ coming
mainly from greens, veg and select fruits
such as apples, pears and berries...i.e.
chicken breast cashew butter, celery,
houmous and cucumber sticks, 2 boiled
eggs with sugar snap peas or an apple
with a handful of natural nuts. These are
just a few snack suggestions and you can
find clean, lean meals including vegetarian
options in the NEW Poletrition recipe book.
www.polemovebox.com
www.tamantini-polexgym.com
3
Eat every 3 hours: Eating at regular intervals
throughout the day will promote a regular
metabolism, maintain good energy and
prevent a drop in sugar levels preventing
cravings allowing your body to let go of
stubborn body fat.
4
Increase H20: Only 2% dehydration can
affect your pole performance! Water is
one of our most underestimated nutrients
when it comes to energy, fat loss and
general health with most of the population
drinking less than the recommended
amount. Avoid all sugary drinks including
fizzy, juice, squash or sweetened hot drinks.
Your exact basic water intake per day is
0.03 x body weight (kg). For every hour of
pole training add an extra 1/2litre.
5
Reduce Bad Fats: Your body needs good
fats. Most of us are lacking in good fats
following the very stereotypical low fat,
low calorie way of eating. Sooo oldskool!
If it’s low fat, generally this means the
‘good fats’ are taken out and replaced
with sweeteners and processed substances
to make it taste good! Yuck! Keep it
simple as P. Chek once said ‘if it wasn’t
here 10,000 years ago, don’t eat it!’ It will
generally be processed in some way. Stick
to full fat foods in their most natural state,
nuts, seeds, avocado, fish oils; the fats your
body are designed to be digested.
6
7
F ill Your Diet with Sufficient Brain Food:
‘Roughly 50-60% of the brain’s overall
weight is pure fat, which is used as
insulation for its billions of nerve cells. The
better insulated a cell, the faster it sends
messages and the speedier your thinking.
Therefore, eating foods with a healthy
mix of fats is essential for energy and
productivity. Fish (wild salmon, mackerel,
anchovies especially) and feeding your
brain with good quality fish oils 3 times per
day will significantly improve both brain
function and help reduce body fat.
S
leep like a baby: Sleep cycles are
another factor massively underestimated
when it comes to energy and fat loss.
Top tips: avoid stimulants after lunch:
caffeine, nicotine and sugar. Ensure your
bedroom is as dark as possible to ensure
full cycles of sleep. 10pm-2am is your
body’s physical repair time and 2-6am is
your psychological and nervous system
repair time. So if you don’t go to bed until
midnight, no wonder you’re not bouncing
out of bed at 6am! No standby lights and
DO NOT charge your phone by your head.
(That’s a whole other article).
This magazine was sponsored by
Pole Move Box and Pole X Gym
Turn the alarm clock display away (or even better
invest in a lumi light). If your room is not pitch black
try using a sleeping mask. You can only get the
best of you when you have quality sleep under
your belt.
8
Eat Like an upside down triangle! This refers
to your portion control. Get in the habit
of eating your BIG meal at the start of the
day; decreasing your portion sizes as the
day goes on. Your digestion is more active
during the day allowing your body to use
food for energy more effectively. At night,
the body naturally begins to slow down
and it is harder to digest, so avoid heavy
high carb meals in the evening and ensure
you balance your sugar levels with a high
protein snack around 1hr before bed.
9
Work it, rest it!!! The most common cause
of injuries in pole is ‘overtraining’. Ensure
you are getting a good variance of
not just your favourite pole moves, but
progressive strength training combined
with cardio training, progressive flexibility
and REST. Recovery between sessions is
just as important as training. By combining
disciplines with rest you are sure to
recharge allowing your body to reap
the benefits of your session, increasing
metabolic rate, decreasing body fat,
shaping and toning your gorgeous body
resulting in a new improved happy and
healthy YOU!
10
!PMT! But not as you know it! Embrace
Positive Mental Thinking! There’s a lot to be
said and researched around the power
of a positive mind and how it affects
your ‘circle of wellbeing’. Check out ‘The
Secret’ by Rhonda Byrne and the work of
the amazing Anthony Robbins for more
about ‘what you put out, is what you
attract’ and ‘unleashing the power within’.

CODE
POINTS
Since 2010 the IPSF has been working on creating
a fair and transparent scoring system for athletes
and judges in Pole Sports. In order to do this,
a clear system needed to be developed, one
which would leave almost no room for subjectivity.
Simply; judge’s personal preferences and opinions
were not to come into account when scoring.
Last year the IPSF launched its first Code of Points
(COP) with the intention of slowly evolving and
improving it over a five year time period. The
COP acts as a guide for all athletes and trained
judges to understand exactly what is required in a
routine. A complete breakdown of all four judging
sections is outlined in the COP, including all that
is needed to be awarded points, how to avoid
being deducted points and includes pictures
and explanations on the execution of the moves
and their point values as an added aid. Examples
being a list of possible points awarded by the
Technical Bonus and Art and Choreography
judges (including floor work), possible points
deducted by the Technical deduction judge for
poor execution, incorrect lines and various other
deductions and all compulsory elements athletes
must choose from.
For the first time at a Pole Sports Championship,
the IPSF has introduced ‘compulsory’ elements.
Athletes must choose a set amount of Strength
and Flexibility elements as well as spins on static
and spinning poles. Compulsory elements have a
technical value between +0.1 and 1.0, depending
on the competitive level. Last year the IPSF
launched this system, which being a new concept,
athletes needed time to adapt to as they were
mainly focused on the compulsory elements and
often losing sight of all other scoring sections.
Some were worried that the artistic side of a pole
performance would suffer once they added
compulsories to their routine. Luckily last year’s
competitions proved this not to be the case!
This magazine was sponsored by
Pole Move Box and Pole X Gym
The list of compulsory elements to choose from has
expanded from 40 elements to over 170 within one
year. The IPSF will continue to expand and improve
the choice of moves for both singles and doubles
athletes over the coming years.
The IPSF scoring system promotes an athlete to
be well-rounded rather than one-sided. The IPSF
believes this is what being a top elite athlete is
about, being able to do it all and do it well e.g.
strength, flexibility, spins on both poles, dynamic
movements, acrobatic movements, combinations,
choreography both on and off the pole, creativity
and originality. This is what separates out the top
most elite athletes and is exactly what the IPSF is
looking for at the WPSC; the best-rounded Pole
Sports athletes.
All IPSF judges must undergo an intensive judges
training course and pass both written and
practical tests in order to become a certified IPSF
judge. Judges are constantly being updated on
all changes and improvements and must re-certify
each year. Only the most experienced judges will
be judging the WPSC.
Would you like to become an IPSF judge? Please
send an email to [email protected]. Apart from
judge’s training courses, the IPSF also organises
coaches and athletes training courses. If you
would like to host one of these training courses,
please email us at [email protected]

POLE
MODEL
Thank you to everyone who sent
in snapshots hoping to win our
Pole Model Competition. A tough
choice had to be made from over
100 applicants and the winner
who became our Pole Model
was Emma Slator.
It was a hot sunny afternoon at a beautiful venue,
High Elms Manor, and the outfits were donated
by Milano, Wink and Everything Pole Dancing.
Iveta Smidtova also donated her time and skills
as the photographer putting Emma at her ease
throughout the day. We are very grateful for their
kindness as sponsors.
Emma, 24, says of her winning day, “I was so
excited to have been chosen; I couldn’t believe it.
Pole has changed my life in many ways; working
out is exciting, I have the motivation to achieve
anything I put my mind to, my body has changed
considerably and my strength has increased.”
Pole Model Emma loved the outfits and was
excited to model them. An exhausting day,
but looking at the final pictures made her want
to do it all over again!
We would like to thank our sponsors, High Elms
Manor and photographer Iveta Smidtova for
a wonderful day.

How to
get to
180
o
Have you always wondered how
elite pole athletes make their splits
look so effortless? Would you like
to improve your flexibility so you
can increase the level of your
pole moves? Follow these tips
from leading pole experts and
you will be 180° in no time!
Make
sure your shoulders are kept engaged
in a neutral position.
Your torso should remain absolutely straight at
all times along with the hips. Keeping the torso
straight may be a problem. If this is the case
use yoga blocks to rest your hands on.
Remember
to breathe continually and
consistently; your muscles need oxygen
and nutrients.
THINGS TO REMEMBER:
Your partner should protect themselves from
injury by engaging the abdominals to protect
the lower spine and keep the legs slightly
flexed so not to lock out the knees.
Warm
up thoroughly.
Work slowly and smoothly; jerky movements
can cause injuries.
Begin
with gravity and hold. If this is enough
for you repeat three times. If you are flexible
enough repeat with the pressure on the back
leg and hold.
If
you can, work with a partner and decide
on a safe word so you both recognise when
you have reached stretch threshold.
If
you are able to push your flexibility further
then get your partner to hold the armpits
and leg and hold.
Push
yourself to where you feel uncomfortable
and have a stretched position of muscles, not
pain and a stretched position of ligaments
and tendons.
You
should repeat three times in the positions
that best suit your level of flexibility.
If
you are unable to reach the floor, use a
rolled towel or yoga blocks to help support
the pelvis, these can be removed as your
flexibility develops.

Pole Move Box and Pole X Gym
Hold
this position for 30 seconds to begin with
and over a period of time (days, weeks,
month and depending on level of flexibility)
increase this by 30 seconds until you reach
three minutes. It is important to advance this
slowly to avoid injury.

TO IMPROVE THE FRONTAL SPLIT
THE SAGITTAL SPLIT POSITION
(essential for all those movements such as the
Spatchcock, etc.)
The front split or sagittal split is one of the most
important positions in pole sport. In order to
achieve a 180° split you need to have 180°
degrees from knee to knee and not heel to heel.
It is important to bear this in mind when training.

with your legs apart.

1
Your partner will place the
sides of their feet at either
sides of your knee.
Your partner should grip
between your shoulder and
your elbow, making sure not
to grip on any joints.
Allow your partner to begin
slowly easing your body forward
by pulling the arms; at the same
time pushing their feet wide to
open your legs further. Hold this
position depending on the level
of flexibility.
Your partner should now
slowly move their feet from
your knees to your ankles
continuing to push them apart.
At the same time changing
the position of the arms to
embrace you and continue
increasing the pressure slowly.
As your partner draws you
closer, they should begin
lifting your body up as well as
pushing the ankles wider. Hold
this position depending on the
level of flexibility.
The Spatchcock awaits you!
This magazine was sponsored by
Pole Move Box and Pole X Gym
Begin in the splits position on
the floor. Your body should
be in alignment making sure
the pelvis is facing forward
and not twisted, this way all
the weight will be discharged
directly to the centre of your
legs and work with the force
of gravity. Hold this position
depending on the level of
flexibility.
2
After holding this position,
your partner may start to
apply pressure to the upper
back leg. Begin to press
gently on the highest point
of the hamstring just below
the buttock maintaining a
constant pressure.
3
If you wish to increase the
pressure, your partner can
hold your armpits and knees,
this will continue to press
directly on your glute. Hold
this position depending on the
level of flexibility.
Always remember to take your time and avoid
putting yourself into a painful position. It won’t
happen overnight, but with regular training and
practice, YOU WILL DO THE SPLITS!

WORLD
RECORD
On Saturday 22nd February 2014 at
10am (UK London time) Pole studios
across the world came together
to celebrate the World Pole Sports
Championships 2014 and try to beat
the 2006 Guinness Book of World
Records title of ‘Most People Pole
Dancing-Various Locations.’
The previous record was set in 2006, and was
organised by KT Coates. It stood at 206 people
participating from 26 pole studios across the world
and raised £50,000 for cancer charities in the
process. An amazing achievement that brought
the pole community together in a way never seen
before around the world.
The International Pole Sports Committee set out
from the beginning to ensure the ‘Pole for Life’
2014 attempt was bigger and better than before,
and were completely overwhelmed by the
support and interest from across the globe. Whilst
hoping to provide studios with an opportunity to
be involved with the work of Pole Sports and to
increase participatory figures from 2006, no one
from the IPSF could have expected the sheer
success of the event. Sophie Logan, Marketing
Co-Ordinator for the IPSF commented stating;
‘When we first started working on the ‘Pole 4
Life’ World Record Attempt I did not expect for
so many people to want to be involved with the
event. The huge range of countries which took
part and the amount of studios that got involved
was absolutely unexpected, but it was hugely
inspiring during the lengthy process of making
arrangements for the event.
I am so proud of everyone who took part, and
so grateful to everyone who took the time to
come together and celebrate the World Pole
Sports Championships 2014 and raise such a large
amount of money for well deserving charities.’

Pole Move Box and Pole X Gym
Not only was interest surrounding the attempt
coming in from the worldwide Pole Sports
community, but the media were also highly
interested too. The attempt was featured across
all media platforms, including television broadcasts
in 17 countries, radio interviews worldwide and
newspaper clippings coming in from the 21
countries that took part. Not only did it help to
increase the sponsorship opportunities for the
cancer charities which each studio chose, it also
presented to the external environment what Pole
Sports is and clearly displayed the dedication,
determination and hard work which all of the
participants put in.
This year’s attempt saw a staggering level of
participation, with over 100 schools across 21
countries taking part. Whilst the final figures are yet
to be confirmed by the World Record Office, there
is no doubt that this attempt reached above and
beyond the level of interest it raised for Pole Sports
and support for cancer charities across the world.
The 2014 attempt raised £26,309.34 for cancer
charities, with Vicky Sharman (UK) raising the
highest amount by an individual participant and
Chalans (Netherlands) raising the highest amount
from a single studio.

INTERVIEWS
WITH WPSC 2013 CHAMPIONS
Alex Shchukin
ALEX SHCHUKIN
Alex Shchukin, Ukraine, is the Senior Men’s
World Champion for WPSC13.
Are you coming to defend your crown
this year?
Yes, definitely. I feel that I still need to fight for my
place in the pole world, I have proved nothing yet.
Not a time to relax!
Do you get nervous?
Yes, I get very nervous. But I try to keep as calm
and concentrated as possible.
You put so much effort and energy into
your performances, how do you come
up with ideas?
Most of my ideas come from music. I love music;
can’t imagine my life without headphones. While
on the airplane, walking my dog, relaxing at the
beach - I listen to music and ideas keep rushing to
my head.

TERRI WALSH
AND LISETTE KROL
Terri Walsh and Lisette Krol, Ireland,
are WPSC13 Doubles Champions.
How does it feel that it has been a year
since you won the title last year?
It feels amazing. To say we are world champions;
it is the dream of every athlete!
Are you looking forward to defending
your crown this year?
We already start training and have so many ideas
for it. We really want to impress the judges and
there’s a lot of pressure now since we won.
How did you feel when you knew you
had won?
We felt amazing!! So, so happy! It was about
showing the world what we can do together.
The WPSC has such strict judging criteria; we
were happy to have met all the points we
needed to. We worked hard to get our lines and
synchronisation correct; the win was proof that the
hard work paid off!

ALESSANDRA MARCHETTI
GRETA PONTARELLI
Alessandra
Marchetti, Italy,
is the Senior
Women’s
Champion for
WPSC13.
When it was announced you had
produced such an amazing performance
to win, how did you feel at the time?
I don’t think it is possible to express with words
what I felt in that moment, the happiness was so
big it was like it couldn’t stay inside all my heart!
You said pole was one of the most
exciting and beautiful adventures of
your life.
I made sport for all my life starting with ballet, then
gymnastics and finally pole. Pole is the only sport
I have found where hard work and fatigue can
give you a 1st prize!
LIZA SZARBO
Greta Pontarelli,
USA, is the title
holder of Masters
50+ WPSC13.
Are you coming to defend your crown
this year?
Yes, I am excited about coming to London in July,
but the real competition is with myself and I always
aspire to let my reach exceed my grasp.
When it was announced that you had
won, how did you feel?
Becoming an IPSF World Champion was surreal.
I thought that at 62 I wouldn’t be able to perform
well enough. It was a great lesson for me to follow
my heart and I felt that message deep inside while
standing on the podium.
BERNADETTE FLOCH
Liza Szarbo,
Hungary, won
Masters 40+
World Champion
at last year’s
WPSC13.
Bernadette Floch, Italy, won Junior World
Champion WPSC13.
Do you get nervous?
I’m always nervous before I go to the stage but I’m
also confident enough and I hope everything will
be OK. You know it’s a kind of positive nervousness
which can make me perform better.
What does your family think of your
participation in pole sports?
It has been a year since you won your
title, how does it feel now?
Every time I think about it, it gives me such a
warm feeling. It was truly the most amazing day
in my life.
First they were surprised that I chose this sport,
but immediately accepted it and since then they
have always supported me fully, that I have to say
thanks for them. Since I started pole they can see
that this is a really serious sport.
Do you get nervous?
I make small mistakes all the time; I do not
really know if I am confident or just pretend
to be confident!
