DESCRIPTION In this “How To” we show how to use the Nyce Control Door/Window Sensor (NCZ-3011) in conjunction with a Control 4 Wireless Switch (C4-SW2-Z) to automate the lighting in a small, kitchen pantry. DESIRED FUNCTIONALITY To provide useful functionality to the home owner, this installation must do the following: Turn the light on when the door is opened Turn the light off when the door is closed Turn the light off after 5 minutes if the door is left open or not closed properly. PRODUCT CHOICES As the area to automate has a single door edge which opens and closes, the Nyce Control Door/Window Sensor (NCZ-3011) is the correct choice for this application. The light to be controlled has no requirement for a dimming function and the existing light switch location has access to a 120VAC neutral connection, so the Control 4 Wireless Switch (C4-SW2-Z) is the correct choice for this application. #004 - Pantry Lighting - Single Door - 3011 (2013-01-14).docx CONFIDENTIAL Copyright © 2007-13, NYCE Control Inc. page 1 of 16 103 – 8525 Baxter Place Burnaby, B.C., Canada, V5A 4V7 Tel: 604-473-9800 Fax: 604-473-9801 STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS Included are instructions to do the following: 1 LOADING THE PROJECT AND CREATING A NEW ROOM .................................................................................... 3 2 ADDING THE WIRELESS SWITCH TO COMPOSER .............................................................................................. 3 3 INSTALLING THE WIRELESS LIGHT SWITCH ....................................................................................................... 3 4 IDENTIFYING THE WIRELESS SWITCH WITH THE NETWORK .............................................................................. 3 5 CONFIGURING THE WIRELESS SWITCH............................................................................................................. 3 6 ADDING THE DOOR/WINDOW SENSOR TO COMPOSER.................................................................................... 4 6.1 ADDING THE GENERIC DRIVER................................................................................................................... 4 6.2 ADDING THE NYCE DRIVER ........................................................................................................................ 4 6.3 BINDING THE NYCE DRIVER TO THE GENERIC DRIVER ................................................................................ 5 7 IDENTIFYING THE DOOR/WINDOW SENSOR WITH THE NETWORK ................................................................... 6 8 INSTALLING THE DOOR/WINDOW SENSOR ...................................................................................................... 8 9 CHECKING THE DOOR/WINDOW SENSOR ........................................................................................................ 9 10 PROGRAMMING THE DOOR/WINDOW SENSOR AND WIRELESS SWITCH .......................................................... 9 10.1 CREATING A TIMER ................................................................................................................................... 9 10.2 PROGRAMMING THE TIMER TO TURN OFF THE LIGHT ............................................................................. 10 10.3 HOMEOWNER FORGETTING TO TURN OFF THE LIGHT ............................................................................. 11 10.4 PROGRAMMING THE DOOR/WINDOW SENSOR....................................................................................... 12 10.4.1 DOOR OPENING ............................................................................................................................... 12 10.4.2 DOOR CLOSING ................................................................................................................................ 13 11 INSTALLATION AND PROGRAMMING COMPLETE ........................................................................................... 15 12 OPTIONAL PROGRAMMING – AUTOMATION BYPASS .................................................................................... 15 #004 - Pantry Lighting - Single Door - 3011 (2013-01-14).docx CONFIDENTIAL Copyright © 2007-13, NYCE Control Inc. page 2 of 16 103 – 8525 Baxter Place Burnaby, B.C., Canada, V5A 4V7 Tel: 604-473-9800 Fax: 604-473-9801 1 LOADING THE PROJECT AND CREATING A NEW ROOM IN our example, the “System Design” column shows a three floor house with different rooms on each level. A new room must be created to hold the NCZ-3011 and C4-SW2-Z devices. Select “Room” under the “Items” column and drag it into the proper floor under the “System Design” column, in our case the Main floor. After dragging the new Room rename it, in our case we call it “Pantry”. 2 ADDING THE WIRELESS SWITCH TO COMPOSER Select “Wireless Switch” under the “Items” column and drag it into the Pantry room under the “System Design” column. Rename the new Wireless Switch to describe it, in our case we call it “Pantry Light”. 3 INSTALLING THE WIRELESS LIGHT SWITCH Replace the existing light switch in the wall with the Control 4 Wireless Switch (C4-SW2-Z) follow the installation and safety instructions included with your Control 4 product. When finished, your C4-SW2-Z should be showing green LED lights in both top and bottom, if not refer to your Control 4 documentation for trouble shooting. 4 IDENTIFYING THE WIRELESS SWITCH WITH THE NETWORK Now we must identify the new Wireless Switch with the project. Follow the installation instructions included with your Control4 product. 5 CONFIGURING THE WIRELESS SWITCH Under the “System Design” column, select the Pantry Light and configure its properties under the “Properties” column. In our case we have made the top LED light pink for ON and the bottom LED light green for OFF. #004 - Pantry Lighting - Single Door - 3011 (2013-01-14).docx CONFIDENTIAL Copyright © 2007-13, NYCE Control Inc. page 3 of 16 103 – 8525 Baxter Place Burnaby, B.C., Canada, V5A 4V7 Tel: 604-473-9800 Fax: 604-473-9801 6 ADDING THE DOOR/WINDOW SENSOR TO COMPOSER Before we physically install the Nyce Door/Window Sensor, adding it into Composer is a two-step process: first a generic Door Contact Sensor must be added, then the Nyce Control driver must be added and bound to the generic Door Contact Sensor. 6.1 ADDING THE GENERIC DRIVER Select “Door Contact Sensor” under the “Items” column and drag it into the Pantry room under the “System Design” column.
