How to know accuracy / geometric resolution in STEP
Open STEP file in any text editor and look for keywords• UNCERTAINTY_MEASURE_WITH_UNIT
• LENGTH_UNIT
Accuracy Settings
Accuracy settings determines import geometry quality.
Relative accuracy Vs Company Prescribed accuracy
Repair Effort required for machined/cast/molded components
Attempt import at different accuracy settings during import
Accuracy can be changed after import if required. No regeneration of imported
geometry due to accuracy change.
Template / Start Part Usage during Import
Setup Import Profile for File – Import.
Create new file using company Start Part, then import.
Import Profile Options Vs Legacy config options
Surface Topology Options
Close Gaps between the boundaries of surfaces in imported model.
Join surfaces even if they are in same layers or do not belong to the same
layers.
Solidify closed volumes
Heal
What is Import Data Doctor ?
Task Based Repair tool designed to repair imported geometry from Non-Creo files.
No or minimal repair effort required if imported model can exist as a quilt in
Creo and is mainly used for •

FMX
What is the Creo Flexible Modeling Extension (FMX)?
Creo Flexible Modeling is an extension that provides
Direct Editing capabilities within Creo Parametric
• Flexible Modeling provides the editing capabilities using direct modeling approach
• Flexible Modeling does not allow the user to create “new” geometry
• Quickly make fast, flexible design changes by directly modifying geometry from any CAD
source
Edit Geometry instead of Edit Definition of features
What can FMX do on imported geometry
Smart geometry selection tools (boss, cut, rounds, chamfers)
Move/Edit using dimensions/constraints
Offset tool
Remove tool
Attach tool
Recognize patterns/rounds/chamfers/symmetry

Can FMX edit complex non-prismatic geometry ?
Direct Editing works best for prismatic geometry. FMX introduced in Creo 1.0 .
FMX in Creo 3.0 handles complex geometry better than in Creo 1.0. Complex
surfaces such as those often found on sculpted, molded or cast components are
generally not easily modified using direct modeling.
Geometric edits on non-prismatic geometry such as tessellated shapes will need
workarounds.
Reason - Direct modeling requires the system to modify the geometry by a
series of rules. The more complex the math in a surface (and all its
intersections), the more complex the math involved in a direct move of that
surface. When a surfaces size, location, etc. is altered, the system needs to have
clear programmatic guidelines on how all the surrounding surfaces should
behave and adapt. In many use cases for complex surfaced geometry, these
guidelines are not clear, thus the limitations.
Workaround - FMX for complex geometry is to simplify that geometry prior to
modification.
