It has step by step instructions on how to do so. From choosing your oil and filter all the way to discarding it. It is design to be an easy read so that you will not have any problems changing your oil. This will save you lots of money on trips to the auto shop. Locate L the drain plug on the t bottom of o the enginee’s oil pan. S Some vehiclees have skidd plates coverin ng access to the plug. Reemove the skkid plate if nnecessary. Remove R the drain plug on o the bottom m of the engiine’s oil pann and allow thhe used oil tto drrain from yo our car into a suitable container suchh as a drip paan. Determine whether the vehicle is a diesel or petrol engine to select the proper classification a. Letters later in the alphabet are more modern, and designed to be compatible with earlier classifications (i.e. CG-4 is more modern than CE) 2. Consult the owner’s manual to determine the manufacturer recommended SAE viscosity rating for the motor oil in your vehicle a. Choose an oil that displays an official API, ACEA, or CCMC quality tested symbol b. Also o be absoluteely sure that you have installed a new w oil filter coorrectly, nott doing so coould cause dam mage to you ur engine and d major leakage. Items Neeeded At Least 5 Quarts of New Motor Oil (Most Stores S Carry Large Contaainers Speciific for One O Oil Change) Funnel Cone C Paper To owels *Remem mber to checck your own ner’s manua al to check tthe exact am mount of oill needed 1. The T first step p in filling yo our engine with w new oil is locating tthe oil cap abbove the enggine block b and rem moving it. The T Oil Cap is a relatively large, usually plastic cap c which is rem moved to replacee the motor oil Figure 3.1 2. Once O you have removed the oil cap grab g your fuunnel and inssert it into thhe hole wheree you removed r the oil cap. 3. Be B sure to allow a small gap between n the funnel sides just sm mall enough to allow a vvery small s amoun nt of air to esscape as you fill your mootor. This wiill help avoidd spillage. 4. Begin B pourin ng the new oil o into the fu unnel, by turrning the conntainer on itss side it will flow easier. e F Figure 3.2 5. Once O you complete this step s replace the oil cap. 6. Next N what yo ou want to do d is turn the vehicle on tto allow the new oil to m move its wayy around a the en ngine. Do th his for about 2-3 minutess. 7. Now N turn of your enginee, and locate the Motor O Oil Dip stickk Usually U it has a yellow ring an nd is located on the same sidde as the Oil Caap Figurre 3.3 R the dip stick and d wipe it offf with a papeer towel and re-insert it into its sockeet. 8. If I it is not at the full line,, make sure there are no leaks in thee fuel filter or the oil plugg underneath. u If I there is no one, just repeeat the fill prrocess and aadd more oil slowly. 10. You Y are now w done chang ging your ow wn motor oil ! * Remem mber to take the used mo otor oil to thee appropriatee disposal arrea, most autto stores andd shops will take it offf your hands.
