The Search for Content
We’ve already established that you need good content, but that’s not enough.
Chances are likely that many of you have hard drives full of great content, and it’s
not making you a dime. It’s just sitting there. It’s even true for Tony who is a
“product creation machine”. He’s got gigabytes upon gigabytes of good content
that is collecting the “digital dust”.
So yes, we need good content but it’s not enough. If you don’t know what to do
with it, you’re stuck. Chances are likely that’s where you are. You have a great
idea, and great content, but you don’t know what to do with it.
When it comes to product creation, many people have “tunnel vision”. It’s not
necessarily your fault, because you are looking to various leaders, marketers,
mentors for guidance.
“What are the best Kindle markets?”
“What are the best trends?”
“What are the hottest products to sell right now?”
So you look to these market leaders for those answers, and basically they say
what they are doing, what’s successful and evergreen.
What happens is you take what these leaders share so literally, that you develop
tunnel vision and forget the fact that what these leaders are giving are examples.
They aren’t typically giving literal “go here do this” type of information, but
guidance, and it can get very confusing.
The simple fact is that it’s designed that way on purpose. You may be very good at

The truth is that in order to solve this problem, you have to shift your thinking.
Hopefully through today’s training, we’re going to do that a little bit for you.
Next, don’t assume what people need.
You want proof that people are going to love it, and one of the quickest ways to
identify that is to identify success. Its finding what’s working right now and “piggybacking” off that success. We’re going to do that shortly in some very cool ways.
Opportunities are everywhere, and often you don’t even see them.
A really good example of that many people reading likely invested in is the “Dragand-Drop Illustrator”.
It’s a great software program that many market leaders developed bonuses for,
and it’s because they saw the opportunity.
That’s where we want to move from having tunnel vision so you don’t miss

The trick is to pay attention to what others are doing and use their success for

The answer is simply: assets. And that is the opportunity in that product. Do you
have to create that product over again? Of course not, and that’s the point.
That’s an example of finding opportunities.
You search for opportunities!
Here’s another quick example: anyone can easily go to JVzoo.com, sign up for a JV
account, and see what the top sellers are.
Not too long ago there was a video software that allowed you to create
whiteboard videos.
A short time after that, Joel Comm released an image package called “handdrawn whiteboard mega-bundle.”
It was simply image assets that complemented the whiteboard video software
that was already released.
It ended up becoming a best seller, as well as the software itself.
Did Joel have to create that software? Of course not! All he did was release a
product to complement it, and it worked out wonderfully.
Tony did the same thing with James’ Drag-and-Drop Illustrator.
He created a bonus that complemented it, and they actually gave it away for free.
But in giving it away for free, they won pretty much every affiliate contest in that
launch. The reason they were able to do that was because it was a great bonus.
And honestly, all of the images they included with the bonus were free from the

So the bonus Tony provided didn’t cost a thing. Yes, he had to process all the
images, but the cost for the actual images was zero. And he was able to take them
all and turn it into a bonus that people really wanted.
The reason we are going over all of this stuff in the beginning is because you really
need to understand why.
Product creation is not all about creating “XYZ” material. It isn’t just about that.
Understand that the issue isn’t necessarily about the strategies, but more about
the “how” and “what” you think about product creation that matters the most.
It’s a very subtle distinction.
It’s not just about the strategies.
Tony, John, and Jay could take any given person interested in becoming a product

Why is that?
It’s because in many cases, its how you think about the process rather than the

Let’s look at some more examples…
 Easy Book Illustration is one of Tony’s trainings. It’s been a huge part of his
business life for the past 18 months. John & Jay created a product on
creating Children’s Books a while back. It was a great product that many
people loved. Being an artist Tony was curious to see how they handled
illustrations, and they actually recommended outsourcing a lot of it. So he
created a process for those people who didn’t want to outsource (or
couldn’t afford it), and it ended up doing extremely well.
 Kindle Cover Templates. If you’re publishing a Kindle book, chances are that
you need a cover, right? So there’s the opportunity, and being an artist
Tony created a bonus. Did it cost a lot to create? Just his time to put it
together.
This is a completely different thought process for product creation rather than
just having an idea: its opportunity driven first. It’s nearly guaranteed success. You
may argue, “Yeah you have a list, or you’re an artist.”
Sadly, excuses aren’t going to get you success. Some of the products Tony
created, he launched without using his own list. Either joint-venture, or on
Facebook.
It’s not the list that ensured success; it was the opportunity that was available,
and being able to communicate that value to make people see it.

There are typically instructions for using the software, but what about training for
people to use it in a way that will benefit them?
That’s an opportunity available right now that could make a lot of people a bunch

All that requires is you taking the time to learn the software, and then creating
videos to show people how to make it do what they want to do (and that’s not

Its like “support product creation”. Some of it is direct, but most of it is indirect.
It’s creating it to support something else.
So the secret is really two-fold:
1. Spotting the opportunity and knowing what to do with it. One of the saddest
things ever is seeing someone with a great idea, but they never do anything with
it. A little while later they see someone else succeeding with that exact same idea,
and what they say is “see I told you it was a good idea!”
What’s up with that? The other person is the one that made the money, how
could you get any possible satisfaction out of it? Don’t be that guy.
2. The next part is finding the content to capitalize on the opportunity. This is a
two-part process. It’s not just enough to have the content. But it’s also not
enough to have the opportunity. But when you marry those together, that’s
where the magic happens, and that’s where the success comes from.
Opportunities are everywhere, and if you’re not seeing them, you’re not looking.
Some of it has to do with belief and expectations, and a lot of it has to do with
curiosity. It’s like how they used to say it was impossible for someone to run a 4minute mile, and then someone did it and shortly after many more people were
doing it. It’s like “breaking the ice”.

It’s a shift in perception, and when you do that all of a sudden the opportunities
are all over the place, and all you have to do is marry it with the content.

Finding Content
As we mentioned earlier, content can come from everywhere. You can create it
yourself, outsource it, or license it.
That will never stop, because these are information products. You obviously need
the information to complete the product!
Tony himself has taught about the Public Domain for years and shown where to
find a ton of it. However, there are new opportunities that you probably don’t
know about, and it’s being created everyday by amazing artists and writers.
It’s new stuff, not 70 year old books, or magazines that went out of business 50
years ago.
It’s all recent content, as long as you know where to look (which you’re about to
learn).
The first thing to do is use the phrase “CC0”.
That’s C – C – Zero.
Not that long ago, creative commons (which is what CC stands for) created a new
license for the public domain. It’s CC0 and it means there is zero attribution or
anything like that.
A lot of people missed it because they are still using the phrase “public domain”
for their searches, but a lot of the newer artists, writers, software developers, and
so on, are using the latest vernacular (which is CC0).
Whenever you go to Google and start doing a search for “CC0” instead of “public
domain”, what you discover is very cool.

First you’ll get some descriptions about what CC0 is, but then you start seeing
opportunities.
“CC0 License”, which is a little different than what you’re used to seeing when it
comes to public domain content.
Google will give the relevant search terms:
 CC0 software
 CC0 images
 CC0 books
And so on which will bring you a ton of current public domain material that you
can use (for whatever it is you’re doing).
Another phrase you can use is: “Free Culture”.
There are a number of artists especially, but also some bloggers that are releasing
all their content under the guise of “free culture”, but it’s also public domain.
Sometimes they use the phrase CC0, other times they use the phrase public
domain.
This is a fairly new movement, and it’s encouraged to read up on what it is.
This is one of those keyword phrases that Tony uses to discover fairly interesting
content that is absolutely free, and it’s being created on a consistent basis.
There are even people creating video games that they are releasing into the
public domain, and they are doing it under the term “free culture”.
A company even released an MMORPG (massive multiplayer online game) with its
code under the public domain.
When it comes to this material you find under free culture, you definitely want to
read up on the licensing. They release it under the public domain but with special
limitations, so you have to be careful you don’t violate any agreements.

In many cases, it’s all in the public domain (which they will be very clear about).
One site to explore is: opensource.com. You can find a lot of software and other
cool stuff, so that’s the direction you should head towards.
“Open content” is another phrase you definitely should explore. You can find
some really cool content with this phrase.
Openculture.com is another site you want to pay attention to.
Another phrase you may not have thought of is “uncopyrighted”.
Zenhabits.com is under that search result, and here’s what it says on the home
page:
If you start exploring through this site, you’ll find something really amazing. His
insights are really prolific, for example “10 ways to do what you don’t want to
do.”
“The cure for your distraction syndrome.”
“The 3 do what you want conundrums.”
Obviously this guy wrote this stuff and he’s got a huge following, but it’s all in the
public domain.

So what does that mean, and what do you do with it?
Let’s say you’ve identified an opportunity for this content.
You just find the highlight points, put them in bullet points in PowerPoint, teach it
yourself, and have it transcribed.
If you do that, it becomes your own words, and therefore your own content.
It’s really not recommended to copy and paste it and try to sell on Kindle or
something.
It makes much more sense for you to just turn it into your own content.
Zenhabits is actually one of the websites Tony sat on without telling anyone about
it.
“uncopyrighted images”
“uncopyrighted software”
And so on.
“Unlicense” is another great phrase.
Unlicense.org is a website that talks about how to release your software into the
public domain, and then they go on to tell you where to find some of it.

These are the kind of phrases you wouldn’t normally think of.
Another phrase is “to the public domain.”
A variation of that is release “to the public domain” (leaving the word release
outside of the quotes).
Another blog that Tony has been sitting on is thesimpledollar.com:
This is another guy who is incredibly prolific in his writing, but he writes a ton of
stuff on money-management and things like that. It’s great content in the public
domain.
Why would people release their content into the public domain?
Really the reason is they want to create an opportunity where other people can
create derivative works.

Opengameart.org is another site that Tony uses (which is a big deal for him to spill
the beans).
If you do a search in that site, you can actually uncheck the licenses… except for
just one:
Whenever you perform a new search, what you end up with is a bunch of content
that was primarily developed for games. But most of it is vector images, meaning
it can be scaled for anything.
People looking for opportunities are going to see this.
This website itself represents a huge opportunity, and its all public domain
meaning you can do anything that you want with it.
The point is that there are a lot of sites like this, and you can find them all with
these phrases:
There was a competition that happened for people developing artwork primarily
for games. We’re talking content that’s by seasoned of artists that’s worth
hundreds of thousands of dollars.
They made a decision if they were able to raise a certain amount of money in a

certain amount of time that they were going to release all that content into the
