Purpose of the information session: To seek input and ideas from the community, and to help in developing an attendance boundary for the new Block 18 (Peter Rupert and Golden Forest) school. Information Package: The following package outlines proposed boundary options for the new Block 18 (Peter Rupert and Golden Forest) school, scheduled to open in September 2010. The package includes maps, tables, and graphs outlining 4 proposed options and their impact on Our Lady of Peace and Our Lady of the Rosary. Information Session Format: The meeting will take the form of a “drop-in” format. There will not be a formal presentation; rather there will be graphical displays and text boards showcasing the information that is found in the package. All display boards are identical. Board staff will be on hand to listen to your comments and feedback, and to answer any questions you may have. Student Transportation Services will also be on hand to answer any questions related to non-transportation zones and busing. How to get involved: Read over the information package and review the options presented. We encourage you to fill out a feedback form, which is found at the end of this package. The Local Boundary Review Committee will consider all comments and suggestions. Process: The Local Boundary Review Committee will review and consider all information gathered throughout the boundary process and will put forth a recommended option in a report to the Board of Trustees. Staff is targeting the June 16th Regular Board Meeting, however this could be postponed depending on the information received throughout the process. York Catholic District School Board Block 18 (Peter Rupert and Golden Forest) Boundary Study FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: When will the new school open? The new school within the Block 18 subdivision is scheduled to open in September 2010. What will the capacity of the new school be? The capacity of the new school is estimated to be between 660 and 740 pupil places. Who is the principal of the new school? The principal of the new school will be appointed in the Winter / Spring of 2010. What is the name of the new School? The school name has not yet been determined. The Board will appoint a school naming committee consisting of all area Trustees, the school Principal, parish Pastor and any additional members that the Board may choose to appoint. The committee will seek input from the community in a manner that the committee considers appropriate (Board Policy 509). Will there be a before and after school program? Once the boundary has been established, a consultation process will take place to determine the feasibility of arranging before and after care at the new school. What about the grand-parenting of existing students? All students residing in the approved elementary school boundary, excluding those involved in special programming, are expected to attend the new Block 18 school. Any students residing within the boundary for the new school who wish to remain at their current school must do so via the TCH 19 form, which may only be approved in accordance with policy 602A (a description of this policy can be found on the Board’s website). There are no grand-parenting provisions considered in any of the preliminary boundary options. York Catholic District School Board, Planning Services Tel: (905) 713-1211 (416) 221-5051 Fax: (905) 713-1269 www.ycdsb.ca Can my child attend a school outside of their school attendance area? Students wishing to attend a school, yet residing outside the school attendance area may apply, via a TCH 19 form, to the principal of the school they wish to attend. However, as stated within the Board’s policy 602A (section 7): b) In the case of redefining boundaries for purpose of effecting a more equitable distribution of enrolment between schools in a municipality; or in the case of newly created boundaries, established to define the attendance area for a new school; pupils residing within said redefined or newly created boundaries, shall attend the school designated within the defined attendance area. Exceptions may be considered by the appropriate Superintendent, only for unique or compelling circumstances. Parents will be responsible for transportation. Accommodation for pupils within the defined attendance area of a school must be given first priority. Therefore a school experiencing overcrowding or anticipating significant growth must be very restrictive in the number of students permitted from outside the attendance area. Will my child qualify for busing? As a general guideline, students in kindergarten and in Grades 1 through 3 qualify for busing if they reside further than 1.2 km from the new school. Students in Grades 4 through 8 will qualify if they live further than 1.6 km from the new school. The Official Non - Transportation Zones will be identified at a later date in accordance with criteria, as outlined in the Student Transportation Services Procedures manual.
