It is an academic regularly scheduled elective class. It focuses on academic instruction, tutorial support and motivational activities. -AVID prepares academically average students for advanced classes -AVID is for all students, but it targets those in the academic middle The AVID student… The AVID student is in the academic middle: A, B and even an occasional C student who has the desire to go to college and the willingness to work hard. These are students who are capable of completing rigorous curriculum but are falling short of their potential. AVID helps to put these students on the college track: acceleration instead of remediation. Students are selected into the AVID program after completing an application and an interview process. State test scores, grades, citizenship, attendance, desire and determination, historically underrepresented in 4-year colleges, economically disadvantaged, and other special circumstances are all considered for acceptance into the program. The application process includes an application, teacher recommendation, and interview with the AVID team.
