WHAT IS HDC?
Howard Dental Center is an oral health care facility
reaching a broad range of individuals including those
living with HIV and AIDS. Our patient base is filled with
individuals who have faced discrimination, poverty and/
or a lack of access to proper dental care. Our goal is to
improve their oral health care. We are saving lives,
one smile at a time.
SAVING LIVES ONE SMILE AT A TIME
oral health includes treatment planning, bringing each
patient to optimum oral health and then helping them
maintain that health.
HDC IS UNIQUE
With a focus on comprehensive care, we eliminated
the “emergency-walk-in” treatment that our patients
often faced and replaced it with a care model that offers

advanced surgical options through referral programs.
We continue to build a network of dental specialists
who support our work.
SBIRT: From 2009 – 2011, we were funded through a
federally supported health education entity for Screening,
Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment.
Patient Services: This program uses a patient-centered
approach to assess needs, monitor and provide referrals
to essential services in an effort to empower patients
to become self-sufficient. Now in its fifth year, it has
proven indispensable to achieving overall health and
life outcomes for patients. We will continue to build on
this effort to increase capacity through a new Integrated
Care effort.
This is a preventive effort to educate the patients about
health risks associated with tobacco, alcohol, and
substance use, which results in reduced healthcare costs
and saving lives. The program proved to be so successful,
that we have integrated it into our overall services.
