About DPHIF-2
1.1
What is the DPHIF-2?
The DPHIF-2 is the interface card to connect the PC to the emulator. At the PC the PC-Card (formerly
called PCMCIA) slot is used. The interface of the emulator is called HIF (Host Interface).

HiTOP
2.1
General
HiTOP is the user interface to control the emulator. The DPHIF-2 card may be used with the HiTOP
versions 4.x and 5.x.
If using the DPHIF-2, HiTOP automatically detects the interface card and will use it for communication.
If more than one DPHIF-2 interface cards is used, HiTOP can not automatically detect which interface
is to be used and no communication is possible.
In this case, HiTOP will report an error such as
Synchronization failed
To be able to detect the correct card, HiTOP needs some registry settings.
These settings will have to be
•
•
modified when using HiTOP 4.x,
created manually when using HiTOP 5.x.

Finding out the I/O Address of DPHIF-2
The DPHIF-2 card uses an I/O address in the Windows® environment. For correct registry settings,
the I/O address must be known.
In the Device Manager, the I/O address is displayed in the Multifunction adapters > HIF-PC Card
entry (see figure below).
•
Open the Properties of both cards to see the I/O address in the Resources tab. An address area
will be displayed:
Example:
0320 - 0327
For the registry setting, the first address (0320) is relevant.

Windows® Registry Settings for HiTOP 4.x and 5.x
Important
The following contains information about how to modify the registry.
Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using the Registry Editor or
by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system.
Hitex cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.
Make sure to back up the registry before you modify it. Make sure that you know how to restore the
registry if a problem occurs.
To modify or to create the correct registry settings, you will need administration rights on your PC.
Proceed as follows:
•
Open the registry editor as follows:
•
In the Run dialog box, enter regedit:

Application Note
•
Open the following two key paths:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hitex Development Tools\DataLink\Hif\0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hitex Development Tools\DataLink\Hif\1
If the key paths are not available (when using HiTOP 5.x), you will have to create the key paths
manually via the context menu:
Modify or create the DWORD value "Port" and enter the I/O address of DPHIF-2.
Alternatively you can generate a registry file for the settings.
•
Open an ASCII editor (such as Notepad), and copy and paste the following:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hitex Development Tools\DataLink]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hitex Development Tools\DataLink\Hif]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hitex Development Tools\DataLink\Hif\0]
"Port"=dword:00000320
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hitex Development Tools\DataLink\Hif\1]
"Port"=dword:00000330
Note
You must possibly customize the Port value and enter the correct I/O addresses.
•
•
Save the file as HitexDPHIF.reg.
In the Windows® Explorer, double-click the file which will automatically install the new registry
settings.
