How to succeed in
Legacy Fundraising
Everything you need to know for starting a successful legacy
giving programme for your charity.
14 September 2011 | 11:00 am - 4:00 pm
Evangelical Alliance UK, London | Limited to 30 participants
Recently, Tom Ahern, one of the most inspirational promoters of good practice in charity fundraising said:
“A person aged 65 is far more likely to have two things a young adult won’t have: (1) enough stuff, and (2) a
sense that time is running out.” Ahern is describing the Baby Boomers who make up a large portion of any
charity’s database. Right now, these are the people your charity might be targeting through direct mail or online
fundraising but not through legacy giving.
Why? - Because when it comes to legacy giving charities tend to focus on the wrong prospects (e.g. older
seniors in their 70s or 80s). Charities tend to start the legacy giving cultivation process too late. Or, they keep
sending out impersonal legacy giving materials rather than talking to donors about legacy giving.
By doing the wrong things, or not doing anything at all, your charity might be missing major
opportunities to fund future work.
So, where can a charity start to build a viable legacy giving programme? What are the key components of such
a programme? What are the best practices in this field? What do you need to know to start a legacy giving
programme in the next few weeks?
If you are wrestling with these questions and more this workshop can help you make a fresh start in legacy
giving. Come and discover the tools you need to start your legacy programme and learn how to engage with
legacy prospects so that they can create lasting value for your charity.
Who should attend
This workshop is for CEO’s, trustees, fundraising and communications staff of
Christian charities seeking to build an effective legacy programme from the ground up.
Also, for stewardship advisers and church leaders who are seeking to promote legacy
giving amongst their denominations, or in their local church.
