Abstract
This a brief description of how to send an image to the SRAM on the DE2 board.

Introduction
You can use the Control Panel to load a picture into the SRAM on a DE2 board that is connected to the
current computer.
The control panel folder is U:\es\TSIU03\Proj\DE2_control_panel. All files referred to are placed
in this folder.
1. Make sure you have the image in a binary format that you understand - the file will be sent directly
to the board, byte by byte.
• However, a student group claimed that it works to send an 8-bit grayscale .bmp to the board.
2. Make sure the DE2 board are connected to your computer (not via the network).
3. Send the DE2 USB API.sof file to the FPGA.
• Double click the shortcut quartus_pgmw.exe to start the programmer.
• Add the file DE2 USB API.sof (you can drag-and-drop the file there).
4. Start the Control Panel (DE2_Control_Panel.exe).
5. From the Open menu, open the USB port (probably USB 0).
6. Select the SRAM tab.
7. In the “Sequential Write” pane:
• Check the “File Length” check box.
• Click on “Write a File to SRAM”.
• Select your image file.
8. Now you can test your project on the DE2 board.
PS. If there are many groups who want to program the
SRAM, the group who are logged in at the computer connected to the board, should be prepared to send an image
from another group to the DE2 board. A file can be easily
transmitted by e.g. email or a USB memory.
