WJ81 User s Guide Setting and How To Use Compass Function ※1 This User s Guide describes how to use SOMA WJ81 features; Compass, Altimeter, Chronograph, Altitude and Hydration Alarms. For more information, please see the Instruction Manual. ■Instruction on compass ■Watch functions (What you can do with SOMA WJ81) SOMA WJ81 is a sports watch that measures bearings, altitudes, and weather using built-in sensors. The watch also features a chronograph function that records up to a total of 50 laps as well as altitude and hydration alarms. Time and Calendar function Indicates the time and the calendar in two time zones, and current altitude. Chronograph function Stopwatch measures up to 1,000 hours. Compass function The digital compass allows you to locate the current position. Data Recall function Indicates the total time, each lap time/altitude, best lap, average lap time, each of which is saved in the CHRONOGRAPH. Altitude function You can display, store, or calibrate the current altitude, as well as view your maximum altitude and accumulated altitudes. Timer function Up to 5 kinds (5 segments) of timers can be set. Weather Forecast function Indicates air-pressure as well as temperature, and plots a change in air-pressure for the last 12 hours. Alarm function Setting of 4 time alarms, 2 altitude alarms, and a hydration alarm is available. ADJUST (RESET) button This button activates mode selection or switching of settings. LIGHT button Use this button to turn on the backlight. RECALL/+ (START/LAP) button Use this button to redisplay the reading, start measuring, or adjust values during setup. NEXT/− (SAVE/STOP) button Use this button to switch views, stop measuring, or adjust values during setup. Ring tone mark Alarm beep icon Switching Mode Views The mode changes each time you press MODE. Keep MODE pressing until the mode you want to select appears. Pressing MODE for 1 second jumps to the TIME mode. ❷ Press ADJUST for 2 seconds The declining angle will blink. ❶ ❸ ❸ ❹ ❹ Turning on backlight Press LIGHT. The backlight will come on. Press LIGHT for 2 seconds . The backlight remains lit for 15 seconds even if you release the button. Checking an alarm beep /Demonstration Holding down the RECALL/+ and NEXT/− buttons simultaneously while the time display screen is displayed enables you to view the word DEMO is displayed, and hear the alarm beep . Then, you can look at views in each mode via the demonstration function (pressing any button causes the display to return to the time display screen). End of battery life warning The battery indicator is usually on in the Mode Name view. It goes off when the battery life is near expiry. In the Time of Day view, all views blink to alert you that the battery needs replacing. 2 seconds Other functions SOMA WJ81 does not have an alarm that sounds every hour. ❷ 2 seconds . ※ Declin … A shortened form of declination . ❸ 2 seconds ④ ● ❸ Press RECALL/+ to increase the value in the direction of the West. Press NEXT/− to increase the value in the direction of the East. Identify the declining angle at the current position (example: W6 for Tokyo) using a map. Adjust the value by pressing either of the buttons. ❹ 2 seconds ❶ Press RECALL/+( START/ LAP) to start measurement. ❷ Press RECALL/+(START/LAP) to record LAP 1 measurement. LAP No. will blink for 7 seconds. Each time you press RECALL/+(START/LAP), the respective LAP time is recorded and the next lap measurement starts. ※Up to 50 laps can be recorded. ※Each time you press RECALL/+(START/LAP), the respective altitude is also recorded. ❸ Press NEXT/−(STOP/SAVE) to stop measurement and finish a RUN. Series number from 1 to 4 is the time alarm; from 5 to 6 is the altitude (ALTI) (H20) alarm; number 7 is the Altitude Alarm Hydration Alarm hydration alarm. Keep NEXT/− pressing until the series number you want to set appears. ❷ Press ADJUST for 2 seconds What is RECALL? RECALL is a function that lets you redisplay views or recall data. Setting the ON-OFF ring tone to confirm operation The ring tone mark will appear or disappear each time you press RECALL/+ while the time display screen is displayed. A ring tone sounds when the ring tone mark is on. ❶ ❶ Press MODE to show the COMP view (the digital arrow will then move). ❷ 2 seconds In 12-hour setting, A indicates a.m. times; P indicates p.m. times. MODE button Use this button to select a mode or switch setting items. ■Measurement start, stop, save, and reset ■Declination setting at current position ❹ Press ADJUST to set the declining angle and RECALL/+ to confirm it (0 is not displayed). ■Description of parts and switching mode views Battery icon SouthEast In COMPASS mode, the digital arrow points due north as shown in the figure at right. The display shows the directional heading and angle in the 12 o clock direction. Keep the watch level to ensure accurate information is displayed. N The COMPASS works for only 20 seconds. When you want to restart the COMPASS, press North direction RECALL/+. Product Features ■Functions of modes Setting and How To Use Chronograph Function ※3 2 seconds ※Up to 60 minutes in unit of minutes can be set in the hydration alarm. ❷ In ALTITUDE mode, the current altitude, ascent/descent rate, and change in the altitude are displayed. Pressing RECALL/+ will start the scrolling of Accumulated Altitude (ACC) and Maximum Altitude (MAX) on the top row.
