Page 3 of 5 AlienVault Unified Security Management™ Solution How to update AlienVault USM™ 1. INTRODUCTION The objective of this document is to explain how to upgrade AlienVault USM™. Upgrading AlienVault USM can be done through web interface or through the command line console. When upgrading a multi-component AlienVault USM installation first upgrade the Server, and then continue to upgrade loggers and finally the sensors. Each component will have to be upgraded individually so to ensure the upgrade is done during an appropriately sized service window. 2. UPDATE: WEB INTERFACE Follow the instructions below: 1. Log in to your AlienVault Installation using an account with administrative privileges. 2. Navigate to “Configuration > Deployment > Components > Alienvault Center”. Figure 1. AlienVault USM: Alienvault Components If an update is available there will be a notification in the ‘New Updates’ column. This update will either read ‘Patch’ or ‘Upgrade.’ Click on the notification to view the changelog and release notes. DC-00117 Edition 01 Copyright© 2014 AlienVault. All rights reserved. Page 4 of 5 AlienVault Unified Security Management™ Solution How to update AlienVault USM™ A ‘Patch’ release will contain fixes to defects in the software and will contain minimal functional changes. An ‘Upgrade’ will have more substantial functional changes and may contain functionality that changes existing workflows. 3. 3. Review release notes and changelog for any functional change that may disrupt existing workflows. 4. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and during an appropriate service window click on UPGRADE. 5. The process can take several minutes, after completion a message will be displayed indicating a successful upgrade UPDATING USING THE ALIENVAULT COMMANDLINE When using the command line you will not be able to review the release notes or changelog or update remote AlienVault components. It is recommended that the web interface is used to update your installation. 1. Sign into your AlienVault system using ssh. 2. On the “AlienVault setup” menu, select menu option ‘1 System Updates’. 3. On the ‘System Updates’ menu, select menu option ‘0 System Update’. DC-00117 Edition 01 Copyright© 2014 AlienVault.
