This is a more formal meeting with an agenda. Business After Hours Typically takes place on the fourth Wednesday of the month. A chamber member showcases their business and provides complimentary beverages and appetizers. Quarterly Member Orientation Chance for new & perspective members to learn more about Chamber programs and activities. Multi-Chamber Events When the opportunity arises we combine forces with other area chambers to expand our networking circle. This may be for a membership meeting or an afterhours event. The January Multi-Chamber Progressive Luncheon is popular with members with an anticipated 130+ in attendance. Social Events Annual events encourage members to relax, have a little fun, and get better acquainted with fellow members. A good example of this type of event includes our Annual Golf Outing in May and Member Appreciation Picnic in July. In December we honor our Business Person of the Year at the Annual Holiday Party. Chamber Reflects on Past Award Recipients While the Awards Committee considers..deserving individuals for our upcoming awards program at the Holiday Party, we’d like to recognize past Business Person of the Year recipients starting with our 2011 Business Person of the Year Dr Kristen Langner of Langner Eye Care. Dr. Kristen Langner is the sole practitioner and owner of Langner Eye Care, which she opened in Roselle in 2005. After five years at her office on Irving Park Road, Dr. Langner renewed her commitment to practicing in Roselle and moved to a larger, modern office occupying a large space on Main Street in downtown Roselle. Dr. Langner has been an active member of the Roselle Chamber of Commerce and Industry since opening her office. She regularly volunteers at the Annual Golf Outing, Taste of Roselle Bingo tent and Rose Parade. Dr. Langner also serves on the Roselle Chamber Scholarship Committee. Additionally, Office Manager and husband Kevin Weslock is serving his first term as Director on the Board of Directors for the Roselle Chamber. A lifelong resident of the Roselle/Medinah area, Kristen grew up in Medinah, attending Trinity Lutheran School and Lake Park High School, and even worked at Shirl’s Drive-In. Dr. Langner and Kevin currently reside in Roselle. In the community, Kristen volunteers her time at Trinity Lutheran Church as a songleader in the praise band and serves as a member of the Mission Ministry. Kristen is also the co-founder and President of See to Read-Read to See, a not-for-profit mission that organizes Christian volunteers to give the gift of sight to people in Guatemala. Since their first trip in 2010, Dr. Langner’s teams have provided over 2500 vision screenings, providing new eyeglasses, reading glasses and protective sunwear to everyone in need. Community Web Shop Inc., a web development firm located in Roselle, has launched a new project to local businesses called CommunityLookup.com. It’s goal is to help local establishments stand out to consumers online. “Coupon websites bring only temporary value to a business, we wanted to create something that brought a lasting value. We wanted to re-invent how consumers search for and research local businesses. Plus it had to be free.” said Ben Strahan, Founder of Community Web Shop. Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka recently saluted Lynfred Winery, and applauded its contribution to Illinois agritourism. As part of the Office of the Comptroller’s “AgriTourism Day” at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield, Topinka presented Agriculture leaders from throughout the state with proclamations celebrating their achievements and continuing dedication. Topinka specifically congratulated Diane Koehler-Rasmussen and Valerie Koehler from Lynfred Winery. Founded by Fred Koehler, considered by many to be the father of the Illinois wine industry, Lynfred Winery was opened in 1979 producing more than 5,000 gallons of wine in 7 varieties. COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT Rose Parade Co-hosted with the Village of Roselle, the Chamber plans and organizes the Annual Rose Parade held the first Sunday in June. Members are invited to participate as a parade entry and assist with staging. Taste of Roselle The Chamber hosts separately a Bingo and Beverage Tent at this annual event which is held the first weekend in August. Sponsorship opportunities are available and volunteers are needed.
