How to Import Video Using Morae Manager Software Why would I import other videos? In addition to Morae recording (.rdg) files, you can import video files including .avi, wmv, and .asf, into Morae Manager. So, you can still analyze recordings from field usability tests. 1. To import a video file in Manager, choose File > Import > Video. (Fig. 1) Will everything still work the same? Video files created by an application other than Morae Recorder do not have the same set of searchable RRT data streams (i.e., mouse clicks, Web page changes, application events, etc.). However, you can still set markers and create tasks in these videos and incorporate portions of these videos into your highlight videos. Fig. 1 Open the Import dialog box. 2. Your video will then be available for task and marker logging. When you are ready to save your project, select File > Save Project As and save your project to at least 2 jump drives and the IDEA Lab User laptop. How to Create Video Clips Using Morae Manager Software Why would I export videos? After analyzing your tests, you may wish to clip sections of the recordings to represent important data. You may also want to see the SOPs for storyboards and converting video clips. You can create clips of your recordings in the Timeline pane of Manager or by dragging tasks to the Clip Bin. 1. From the Timeline, move the playhead to the starting point of your video and click the Selection Start button. 2. Move the playhead to the ending point of your video and click the Selection End button. You can manage and log tasks in Manager using steps 2-4, and then clicking on the Log Task button. Once created, defined, and scored, tasks can be dragged from the Project pane to the Clip Bin, and a video clip of the task’s duration is created. 3. Click the Play Selection button to view the selected section. 4. Click the Create Video Clip button. The Video Clip Properties dialog box will appear. 5. Select your desired settings and Click OK. The video clip appears on the Timeline and in the Clip Bin. Clips, tasks, and graphs from the Clip Bin and Project pane can then be included in Storyboards and exported as videos, PowerPoints, or other sharing formats. How to Convert Video Using Morae Manager Software Why would I convert videos? Morae recording (.rdg) files can only be played on computers installed with Morae software. You may wish to view your tests on your own time outside of the IDEA lab. Video files in .avi, wmv, and .asf formats should play on your PC or Mac. Will everything still work the same? Your converted video files will include the audio and video from your test, including the picture-in-picture format you see in Observer. Your video will not include your logged tasks and markers, though. You may also want to see the SOPs for video clips and storyboards. Before beginning your recording session, you can choose to save the recordings as both .rdg and .wmv formats from Morae Observer. (Fig. 1) 1. To convert a recording after the recording session is completed, open the recording in a Manager project. Then click on the Present tab to the left. (Fig. 2) You can move full-length test recording files during this step. 3. Click the Produce Highlight Video button from the title bar or choose File > Produce Highlight Video. Fig. 2 Drag your clip to the storyboard. 4. A dialog box will appear for this and the next three steps. (Fig. 3) Select the Storyboard you want to produce. Click Next. 5. Select a compression option using the radio buttons. Click Next. • • • Full Motion Video (.wmv) provides a good compromise between file size and video quality. Lossless Video (.avi) provides the highest quality video, but may increase file size, especially if the video contains lots of motion. Custom (.avi) allows you to fully customize your production configuration. 6. Select the size of the produced video. Click Next. Fig. 3 Choose production options from the dialog box. 7. Select the destination folder for your converted file. Name your new file. Click Finish.
