July 9: It was the Chris Kline Show for the Nottingham
Babe Ruth 15-year-old All-Stars at Switlik Park tonight.
Kline pitched Nottingham to a 15-5 win over Hightstown in
a District One Tournament elimination game, which puts the
Veterans Park crew back in action Tuesday night against township
rival Hamilton.
Kline also delivered the two-run single in the bottom of the
fifth that invoked the 10-run mercy rule. And when a team is in the
loser’s bracket trying to save pitching, every two innings saved is
a help.
Nottingham has now won three straight and faces rival
Hamilton at 5:45 Tuesday night, as one township team will knock
another from the tournament. Nottingham is already assured of a
state berth as its hosting, but would love nothing better than to
knock out Hamilton after the Switlik Gang did it to them as 14s last
year.
Joe Helmlinger is about to come down on
Not to mention, Hamilton beat Nottingham four days ago in the bag before the ball gets in the glove as
the Nottingham runner was safe at first
a first-round district game.

Kline threw a seven-hitter with three strikeouts, and also
had two hits and four RBI. Jake Alu had two RBI, Joe Helmlinger followed his big Sunday effort with a
two-run single, Colin Wolf had a two-run homer and three RBI, and Matt Tola had an RBI single.
Hamilton forces township showdown with a win Salvatore and Ewing
Playing its first game since being
dropped into the elimination bracket,
Hamilton came up with a 7-1 win over
Ewing in a game that was a pitcher’s duel
between Mike Glazewski and Mike
Salvatore until Hamilton broke it open in the
sixth inning.
The victory gives this group of
Hamilton players a chance to beat its rivals
twice in the districts for the second straight
year. And just as much hangs on this game
for Hamilton as it did last year in the 14Matt Dempsey slides in safely with a double against Ewing tonight
year-old tournament.

A win tonight keeps the Switlik Gang alive while Nottingham is automatically in the states as
host. A Hamilton loss means only one township team will reach states
Tino Malave helped Hamilton’s cause with a single, double and two runs scored, while Kevin
“Legend” Smiegocki and Austin “The Stin Man” Constantini both had RBI hits in a three-run third.
Constantini also added an RBI single to help bust it open in the sixth.
Glazewski got the win with six strong innings of work.
