How to access TD Ameritrade
Tax Information for your Account
Log into TD Ameritrade Institutional Client Platform at www.advisorclient.com
(Investment Professionals log into TDA’s VEO site at www.advisorservices.com)
If you have not created a user id or are unable to log in, contact
TDA Tech Support at 1-800-431-3500, Option #3.
Once logged in, select taxable account to view (Tax information can only be accessed 1 account
at a time. Repeat steps for each taxable account.)
Select Account from Drop Down box
While on “Positions” tab, click on
“Track your Cost Basis”
Clicking on “Track your Cost Basis” will open the Gainskeeper window where tax reports can be
created.
REPORT OPTION 1:
Form 8949 Consolidated PDF Report (from Gainskeeper)
Select “Realized for Form 8949”
Enter Tax Year date range
Click on “View PDF” to create report
This report provides Grand Totals to complete IRS form 8949 as well as a list of transactions to
attach with your return.
REPORT OPTION 2:
Excel Spreadsheet of Form 8949 Consolidated Report
(from Gainskeeper)
Select “Realized for Form 8949”
Enter Tax Year date range
Click on “View XLS” to create report
This report provides Grand Totals to complete IRS form 8949 and transaction details in
spreadsheet format.
REPORT OPTION 3:
TDA Consolidated Form 1099 PDF format
This will provide a PDF version of TDA’s Consolidated 1099 sent in the Mail to each client. From
TD Ameritrade’s web site, select account to view documents for.
Select Account from Drop Down box
Click on “Documents” Tab
Click on “Tax Forms”
Select Year from drop down box and
click “View”
Click on Document name to open
Troubleshooting
TDA Tech Support is available if any of these steps generate error messages.
Call 1-800-431-3500, Option #3
Most common error message is:
If you receive this message in Gainskeeper, you may be missing Cost Basis information. This is
usually caused by investments transferred to TD Ameritrade that were not purchase in the TD
Ameritrade account (i.e. purchased elsewhere and transferred “in-kind” to TDA).
To check for missing Cost Basis information, click on “Run” to review the errors. If the message
indicates missing cost basis, send an email to [email protected]. TDA will need to enter
the missing data to correct the error. You will need to provide in your email the purchase price
and purchase date for the effected security.
**When running any reports in Gainskeeper, double-check all transactions have cost basis
amount entered. If any transactions show cost basis of $0.00, your report is not correct! You
will need to do either a manual adjustment for your tax filing or email
[email protected]**
If you receive this error and it does not relate to cost basis, you can disregard if it is for
transactions prior to 2011. If you are unsure, please send email to [email protected]
with the account number and description of the error.
